Invaders Must Die
Now that I've given it a full listen I'd have to say it's easily forgettable and I will probably do just that after a month. Every song is an intro followed by breaks to your face and a saturated/distorted bass sound for 4 minutes. Totally uninspiring. The only reason people might get excited is that they admittedly revisited some of their sounds from the early 90's, but even that just makes you go "hey, they used that sound in…....". I wouldn't call a "it's better than their last shitty release" review a stamp of approval….but I'm still questioning if it is better than Always Outnumbered. At least that had some variety. It's just music for hyper people with no emotional value. If this was released by any other artist it probably wouldn't blip on any chart.
Other than that it's fine.

No offense beats, but you did that before you admittedly even listened to it.beats me wrote:Now that I've given it a full listen I'd have to say it's easily forgettable and I will probably do just that after a month.
It's why I rarely if ever get into discussions about Sasha, I don't really care for his genre, so why would I?
This sounds to me like somebody who doesn't like aggressive music reviewing an aggressive record. I'm picking this up today, I could easily come back and agree with either side on this, but I doubt I'll be as disappointed in it as I was with Always Outnumbered, personally I listen to Prodigy to hear some in your face aggressive shit, and that record simply wasn't. I'll listen to Coil, Underworld, Skinny Puppy, or Justin Broadrick's various projects if I want decent variety, with Prodigy I want distorted manic beats, cheesy club sounds, and some fucked up limey calling my mom a cunt for four minutes.beats me wrote: Every song is an intro followed by breaks to your face and a saturated/distorted bass sound for 4 minutes. Fair enough and maybe it is my preference but to me it's just 11 tracks of the same. If I wanted nonstop aggressive I'd listen to Slayer. Maybe if Prodigy only released albums of an hour of the same thing over and over then I wouldn't expect anything different. Fat of the Land showed me differently. They can have range and still be aggressive.

Personally though I loved Fat of the Land, it was mainly for about 5 of the songs. In my world that's a really stellar achievement in electronic music though. Since you dropped Slayer, it's like comparing every Slayer record to Reign in Blood. They just aren't going to match that level of ferocity without somebody saying they sold out, or are rehashing it etc.beats me wrote:Fair enough and maybe it is my preference but to me it's just 11 tracks of the same. Anyway, I should actually freaking listen to the record before BSing anymore.

I've had that experience with NIN ever since Pretty Hate Machine. Except for I still think Pretty Hate Machine is the only really great album by him. Hated it when it came out though. Industrial Pop music with horribly self indulgent lyrics to my ears. Now it's 'edgy' in retrospect to his later work.beats me wrote:I'm having an experience right now that I usually have with NIN. I never really like their current release but it makes me like the previous release that I didn't like at the time of release either. So now I'm listening to Always Outnumbered and really digging it.

OK just listened to it. Disagree big time. I don't think they led with the best stuff on the record though. My favorites so far.
Worlds On Fire
Pirana
Take me to the Hospital
Thunder
Invaders Must Die
Worlds On Fire is right there with Spitfire, Firestarter, Smack My Bitch up etc.
Would've made the cheesy fast synth in the break sound more like it was coming out of a kids toy game speakers though, but hey, this is a music forum.

That's cool. I think we like different aspects of Prodigy and for my taste this was somewhat of a letdown. Maybe this can mirror the "Should Live be a DAW or DJ tool?" disagreements.Machinesworking wrote:OK just listened to it. Disagree big time. I just felt it was very predictable and when the song didn't go somewhere predictable it went somewhere I didn't like. Again with the NIN comparison, some fans hold Trent to a certain standard or sound and he can't please everybody and just does what he does.
Baby's Got A Temper....now THAT is the fuckin' jam!!

That song coupled with some live Punkish songs I saw them perform gave me such high hopes for Always Outnumbered before it was released but then.....meh the release.funky shit wrote:beats me wrote:Also was a fan.Machinesworking wrote:Baby's Got A Temper....now THAT is the fuckin' jam!!
BTW did everybody check out the interview style explanation of each song track? I know I've been harsh towards Prodigy on this thread but that was seriously a waste of space. You could tell they weren't into it, probably didn't want to do it, and there were zero interesting stories about the creation of the tracks. Why bother?

IMD, FOTL, MFTJ and Experience is me coked off my tree going mad and partying hard.
AONO is the sexy model sitting down at the bar with friends.

@beats me,
Honestly no one song is as mindblowing in construction as Smack My Bitch Up, or with as cool sounds as Mindfields, but overall it's a good record. The main complaint I have is this love of cheesy analog-ish video game-ish lead lines recorded super clean they've had ever since Always Outnumbered. His newer productions make a good case for (old) analogs and hardware really.
Still the actual songs are cool stuff, we're just s bunch of freaking audiophiles.
@funky shit.
They always lead with a great song, people like to hate on the 'hit', I don't buy into that. too many people are only capable of doing a great hit song.
My vote is still for Worlds On Fire as best song though.

So we're making some headway on our budget proposal....I mean Prodigy appreciation.
I can agree with some points on specific songs but maybe not so much on the collective works aspect. Some people like the cheesy aspects and sounds and others don't. I fall under the latter.
Here's a tip, never listen to Prodigy with very little bass response speakers. It's a damn static mess. I got voted off the island by my coworkers today.
