listen up, buddy. I'm on here INFORMING people of stuff. It's hard work fighting against the constant willful ignorance of clowns who don't RTFM or listen to what anybody else is saying.

so, y'know what? Forget i said anything. You can't layer sounds on one drum rack pad and you shouldn't anyway because it compromises audio quality and flexibility. Don't use drum racks, they are useless tumbleweeds of code in the ableton program, disregard them. Also, cocks.

I am doing this.....setup a drum rack with impulse on the cells you wish to use.....when you trigger a cell only the first impulse slot will hit, you can put a midi chord plug before the impulse and adjust to suit.....you can make up to 8 impulse slots hit at the exact same time (layering hits) this way.
Oh snap! That's genius!
This is great advice...However, I'm trying to do the same thing but with a standard Instrument rack, as opposed to a Drum Rack...I want the second chain in an instrument rack to be an Impulse, but can't for the life of me get any of the impulse cells to trigger even though the 'Chain Input Level' shows that a midi signal is present, and there's definitely a sample loaded in the first cell....

Also i tried dragging the zone marker across all the keys in case cell 1 of the impulse had to be triggered else where....

This must surely be possible or otherwise what would be the point of being able to load an impulse on an instrument rack chain in the first place??

Any Ideas?

so you can't fucking type or read....it's Trypset (like a set that makes you want to be on some Tryptamines whilst listening to)...why don't you start a hooked on phonics thread....then we can come post nonsense thats totally irrelevant.

took me a while to figure that out the first time I was getting into Impulse as well, hope you got it all sorted to your liking

I have an electribe ES-1 MKII, I mapped all the knobs (pain in the ass because they are all NRPNS) to impulse knobs. It works PERFECTLY, I have a hardware midi sequencer with at individual parts, each with 4 dedicated knobs to do with whatever I please.

I can't believe more people don't use electribes....I however have never suffered from the dread MIDI sync issue. I've run it this way on 7.0.1-7.0.3 with 0 issues.

Thanks for that..interesting about the Electribe, in fact i've been on the verge of getting a drum machine with a clear lit step sequencer for a while, but was hoping to map it to the software domain, either REdrum or a Drum Rack, but since the APC40 can be used in this way thanks the MAX, i'm thinking of holding out till then???

does the APC40 have dedicated knobs per drum part?

or does it just have "x" amount of knobs that can be assigned to whatever?

no, the apc doesn't have a dedicated drum knob, but you could assign any of them, condescending nub.
