Support Jacobain all you want.

The fact remains - He decided he absolutely wanted a 256 at WAY ABOVE normal pricing. That doesn't mean he has the right to stick to the rest of us. Besides, the manufacturers are running silent auctions now so you don't have to pay these OUTRAGEOUS prices.

Art collectors do it all the time - bidding way above the current value because they absolutely are willing to do so to ensure acquisition of the item. But it is understood by anyone with experience that you don't go back to the auction house and offer it at a starting bid equal to your previous bloated bid. The auction house would laugh in your face.

He's not "sticking it" to anyone, he's asking a price which the market can determine the reasonableness of. The monome folks could always require signing a contract with purchase where the purchaser would agree not to resell for over X amount.

You are 1000% wrong.

It happens all the time in the art world.

Disagree. The Monome is a beautiful piece of functional art.

Pampered rich white kids who have $1500 to blow on a box with twinkling lights, then complain when someone wants to sell it for even more?

Art, cars, houses, toys - anything. If you want it THAT BAD, don't expect to get the premium back. That is unless, you're counting on another greedy individual to scarf it up. So, yeah, the cycle of greed will inevitably continue. It doesn't make it right however.

Again, the Monome community DOES NOT condone this. It goes against everything they've built and stand for.

Oversimplified prejudice only serves to illustrate how ignorant your statement is. It also proves the sheer irony in this discussion of buyer/seller ethics. "Pampered rich white kids" truly exemplifies you're racism, jealousy and envy. Do you seriously think this will endear anyone to your opinion?

I know owners who have eaten peanut butter for months in anticipation of purchasing a Monome. I only feel pity for your limited viewpoint.

Oops, after reading your post I forgot to add 'self-righteous' behind Pampered, rich...

Eating peanut butter for months in anticipation? Uh oh. Better add 'stupid' behind self-righteous.

:P

lol, there you go. I guess, if you don't want to see it as functional art, you can certainly call it a beautiful piece of Industrial Design.

Better not emphasize the word 'industrial', however. The neo-hippy Monome community would definitely take offense. Mustn't have anything that resembles that now... :D

Yup. That's all you've got left - insults. An obvious attempt to overcompensate for your inability to make a valid point. Keep burying yourself and forget about growing a bigger penis.
