Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
I ordered the 2x2,26 one with 12GB and ATI Card.
Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
Just noticed the benchmarks about 12GB were fucked up.. maybe I'll change the order to 8GB or 6GB.
So what do those cheesy benchmarks (without any unit?!) mean exactly?

When we insert 8GB the 4GB are accessed by Live faster than 4GB will be accessed if we insert 6GB? Or the other way around?
And what about audio units running in Live.. can each of those access another 4 or 8GB? Then 12GB might not be that wrong.

Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
live wont use more than a standard 32bit app. 12 gb of ram is an overkill...
dunno bout the 8cores though

Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
Plugins like Kontakt and Reaktor could easily use another 4GB each..
Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
oh, sry i sometimes forget that 3rd party vsts even exist :F ;PDaim wrote:Plugins like Kontakt and Reaktor could easily use another 4GB each..

Are you sure?Daim wrote:Plugins like Kontakt and Reaktor could easily use another 4GB each..
I thought 3rd party AUs RAM consumption is added to Lives RAM consumtion up to the 4 (3.5?) GB limit.
Anybody with Kontakt, Reaktor etc. checked this out in Activity Monitor with some big libraries?
In Logic you can go over that by using an AU host like Plogue Bidule for Kontakt & Rewire.

No, I'm actually not sure. That's why I'm still considering to change my order to 6GB..
Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
Correct. It would be added to Live's RAM- plugins use the host's allocated RAM.steko wrote:Are you sure?Daim wrote:Plugins like Kontakt and Reaktor could easily use another 4GB each..

Changed my order to 6GB.. now I got 2 orders and can decide by paying for one or the other.. any help or hints appreciated
Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
I'm going to keep mine as is. I can't imagine that 12GB of ram won't come in handy at some point and since I intend to keep this machine for quite a long time, I would imagine 12GB won't seem like overkill 4-5 years from now.Daim wrote:Changed my order to 6GB.. now I got 2 orders and can decide by paying for one or the other.. any help or hints appreciated
Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?
