lmfao!! agreed, I also look at it as the dramatical suffering artist type, it's all so very serious.
I wonder what percentage of the world's prison population is made up of producers who released remixes without the rights. Or how many producers are now homeless after being sued by the music industry. Or how many labels have offices with walls made of stacked cash they made off a remix while the remixer didn't get a dime. These are the statistics we need to know. It's enough to make a person not want to work on music at all.

it's probably the same as the number of people Phil Spector killed.

Another number we don't have an exact count on :)

scientist wrote:fuck this greedy bullshit. even an amateur producer/remixer deserves to get paid for their work...not with some bullshit prize that is meager relative to the potential profit for the other parties involved. from the fine print:
1. all rights in and to any remixed versions ("Remixes") of the song "Peace" ("the Song") created by the Entrant shall be owned by Grabbing Hands Music Ltd ("GHM") and to the extent necessary the Entrant hereby assigns all rights in the Remixes of the Song to GHM throughout the World for the full life of copyright and any and all extensions and renewals thereof. If requested by GHM or EMI Music Publishing Limited ("EMI"), the Entrant shall complete and sign a formal assignment of copyright to give effect to the foregoing;

2. Martin Gore will be registered and credited as the sole writer and EMI the publishers of the Remixes of the Song created by the Entrant;

3. the Entrant will not acquire a copyright interest in the Song by virtue of creating Remixes of the Song;
grabbing hands, indeed. contributing to the writing of a song (even in the form of remixing) and then signing over copyright is considered unethical by performing rights organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SOCAN, etc).
First of all, amateur producers and remixers don't automatically deserve to get paid. Usually they suck, and even if someone succeeds in putting a catchy beat behind this–or more likely, throwing it on top of some previously crappy beat they had lying around–, and winning the contest, that shouldn't change who WROTE THE FUCKING SONG. Of course they're playing it safe. If you win this, it's great exposure even without the prizes.

I didn't really appreciate paying for the stems either, but it's a pretty smart way of generating some extra cash from the track. On the other hand, I'm sure you could take your anger at their greed out on them by buying the stems, and stealing the album.

If you ask people to do a remix for you, don't make them pay for the shitty stems that weren't even properly put together!

is it still "they"!

You guys think too much! ...just do a remix and be done with it!

I was hoping to give this a go, but I couldn't get into the track.

I like Depeche Mode but I didn't love the lyrics.
Agreed. I downloaded the tracks, thinking I'd try my hand at a remix, which is sort of new for me. Except the song sucks. Really lame. I'm a fan of DM (haven't paid much attention to their more recent work) but this track is really hard to get into.

I usually don't do this but... special circumstances. My roommate and very good friend entered the contest and I'm spamming up a few boards to get a few votes in his favor. :P

Sounds good, although the vocals spoil it slightly :-)
