The samples themselves are simply universal wav files, perfectly compatable with Live. However the *kits* are in a proprietary NI file.

I don't think Battery's being discontinued for Maschine, they are totally different. However, I think Maschine is going to get more of NI's attention for a while. Having said that, there is yet another update due for Battery...haw many years has B3 been out now, and it still has issues???

I got Battery 3 for the samples - they are kick ass. Functionality-wise, B3 is nice, and the ram-release feature is pretty cool, but the real strength is the sample library, which is quite fantastic. Cuts thru mixes like buttah.
