"Let's Get Lost" - the documentary about Chet Baker shot by the fashion photographer Bruce Weber in glorious B&W. Really good and almost painful to watch due to how messed up and yet beautiful Chet was.

dunno if it's currently available, but the BBC documentary "Deep Roots" series is pretty excellent, narrated by the late Mikey Dread and a star-studded cast. i think there are 6 parts, highlights include Jammy at the controls at King Tubby's, mid-70's era Tommy McCook and the Supersonics playing a couple of tunes at the Treasure Isle studio (Duke Reid had been sick for a while and died by then, Sonia Pottinger had taken over the Treasure Isle empire). very informative and entertaining for those looking to learn more.

there's also a later BBC documentary called "The History Of Jamaican Music" that's a three-parter, it covers the time from the 40's era mento all the way up to the later dancehall sounds of the 90's and early 2000's. also very good, it talks about the music in the bigger context of the forces that were shaping Jamaica from the 60's onward (independence, political and economic crisis, violence, drug trade, etc.).

on a non-music tangent, "Life And Debt" is a documentary about the economic plight of Jamaica and it's place in the era of modern globalization. really good, and it sums up what living there is like - vacationing foreigners, prosperity for a relative few, and severe poverty for most everyone else, all intermingled together in day-to-day living. it's the ugly underside of Freidmanite "global economy" cheerleading, it should have been subtitled "Earth Nuh Flat, Yuh Damn Fool!"

"Land Of Look Behind" is definitely a movie with a wierd vibe.... good, though.

oh yeah! "brothers and sisters! i don't know what this world is coming to!"..... good call, it's been a while since i've seen that. i stumbled across it again on Sundance or IFC a couple of years ago.

nice one guys, seen anvil: damn i feel sorry for those guys when their on tour in europe and they dont get paid. Really has given music another perspective.

Have to say dub echoes is pretty amazing, seeing as what they had to do to create effects which we use with one click in ableton.

in my daydreams i've imagined going to Europe to perform, and thought that Berlin would be cool but I'd feel out of it not being able to speak the language.

seems like England would have me feeling the same way.

the classic albums series was also good.
