Well i took my system apart and cleaned it out with a can of compressed air a month ago and i haven't had a problem since,
a theory my friend had is that it has to do with over heating, so i just blew the dust out of the fans and off all the logic board and it seems to have done the trick..
The fact that ableton has been running a higher cpu load would add extra heat to the boards so another reason why it might look like ableton was the problem in this situation...

So €8.99 for the compressed air, a little work pulling it apart and i have my computer back = Bargain

i'm currently using live 8.1.6b6

Anyway I was not referring to any one at Ableton, but some musician friends who work almost exactly with the same configurations, except for the HW (FW 800), and to them it does not happen.
What I also experienced was the total audio f++k up even after I quitted Live, for several times Quicktime just hang up, Firefox, iTunes too, everything.
Had to restart Audio card/computer to get it back working.
And I mean, Quicktime hang ups...????????
Same here. All audio of computer goes. MacBook 2.0 C2D. 10.6.5 Live 8.2.

OOOooo my OOO my, I feel ur pain I passionately hate any type of hiccup w/ any DAW, especially Live since thats my main enviroment (8.0.4)...I had a issue just like that before and after some intense and frustrating troubleshooting, I found that the settings in my sound card were a little off(it is usually something small we are overlooking when a problem such as occurs)...I am using a Presonus Firestudio Mobile firewire, that thing is violent, nice investment! Hey man so check the audio preferences in options in Live and also check ur soundcard settings!
