A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
HELP!?!?!
just downloaded 8.03.
I don't see the red box on the Live GUI.
with the APC selected under Control Surfaces I get midi activity in Live but no actual control. at one point I was playing a drum rack with the pads (1 drum per row.)
APC MIDI OUTPUT port is orange indicating a problem there.
enabling APC MIDI IN remote/track doesn't change anything.
Novation SL and BCR are fine, they automap and update each other.
Help doesn't show the APC.
the install on the CD was for Live 7.13, I installed that, nothing changed.

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
awe dang... many beers are needed to tolerate whats coming...
I experienced the SAME thing you did!
I'm starting to think there's an order to the initial installation. From what I've read in some other posts it might be that a hierarchy is created when midi controllers are installed. I'm thinking the APC wants to be the master device or WEIRD things happen.
I have some ghost images of my machine and can revert to previous installation points. I'm prone to go back to pre-live and gear and start from scratch to experiment with WTF is going on.
The software drivers are not perfect (as they cant predict every situation) but I'm wondering what about the configuration is screwing the marbles up. Since this isn't a mission critical thing for me it's no big deal to revert and troubleshoot- just time consuming cuz the day job gets in the way.
NOW onto MORE BEER!

dunno, we'll see.
do you have the 'APC Edition of Live'? I think that's my problem.
I launch 7.13 that came with the CD and get an error
Live 7 Akai Professional Edition is not available because Live 7 is already unlocked.
EDIT - all previous midi activity as on the key/midi input.
going to 7.13 the faders finally show midi activity in the midi in indicator. the buttons and other stuff are on the midi/key indicator.

John! maSchine only works great for you and some select others. Trust me that it doesn't work that way for everyone!
Thanks for the worthless advice.
Tone:
I did not use that version, however I had the SAME behavior as you do and I was using 8.0.3. = Midi activity light in the upper right corner of the LIVE app... yet NO JOY on the controller actually controlling the software.
I'll pm you my phone number if you want to chat.

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
thanks! I'm gonna poke around a bit, I'm also watching the Stanley Cup on the Tivo so the night's not a total wash dealing with my Akai and Ableton labeled brick. at least the install light show was pretty to watch.
reading the thread right into my replies is lol-able, lamb to the slaghter... early adopter happy fun time.
cold reboot, try again, go look for beer 4 I think I know where it's hiding.

Have you tried what I suggested at the beginning of this thread?

dburns- yes I originally did...and still no joy. I'm not sure if Tone has or not yet but i think It's not going to make a difference since he sees midi signal yet still has no control.
TONE: I hear you! I was there at that point last night. I got everything working and now today I deal with PadKontrol nonsense!
It'll work soon enough! Either by configuration changes or by the coding gods writing the fix in the next patch.
I'll keep you posted on whats making what work for me.

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
I worked it out. in short, turn on the APC first. the red box is on the Live GUI, all the controls seem to be working. no registry tweak necessary.
APC output port is no longer orange.
I got the APC, Novation SL25, BCR2k all in automap mode with the red square on the Live GUI.
turned off the computer, the 3 devices turned off.
started computer, booted Win XP.
turn on APC, wait for Windows to beep as it enumerates.
do the same with the BCR
then the Novation SL.
under control surfaces tonight the BCR and APC would be
USB Audio Device (2)
and
USB Audio Device [2]
respectively. annoying but I've seen this before, it's () vs [].
the APC now shows as
USB Audio Device
and the BCR is
USB Audio Device (2)
just mess with the naming to see which maps with what. tonight the SL and BCR have been resilient, maintaining automap as I played with the midi port settings.
Novation SL uses port 2 for automap.
I'm using Live 8.03 download.
suck it john gordon.
hth, just some quick notes before I go play with this damn thing.
edit -
omfg this thing is the peanut butter to my chocolate. my hands smell like new gear. the sweet sweet scent of outgassing Chinese plastics fills the air with love.
john gordon will want one.

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
Glad to hear you got things going good! I'm jealous.. I'll have to try that turn on device order thing as I still can't seem to get the PK and APC to work together since the first initial install. (I'm at work and can't play right now
)
Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
Windows XP
Live 8.03
APC 40
Trigger Finger
MPD 24
UC 33
Radium 49
What is the workaround for having the APC 40 and other midi devices to work together?
The way I have it set up now, i can't use other midi devices with the APC 40. The APC 40 installs as the USB Audio Device 1, yet when i assign usb audio device 2 to say the trigger finger, the APC 40 stops working. Only when i uninstall the other midi devices in the preferences will the APC 40 work.
Do i need to uninstall all of the other USB devices and then reinstall them, leaving the APC installed?
I have a laptop. Do i have to plug the APC 40 into the same USB port each time? My other question is, do I have to keep it consistent and remember which USB Midi controller device is plugged into which port?
Help, I want to use the APC 40 with other midi controllers yet can't in Live 8.03. Why can;t i use other midi devices AND the APC 40?
I don;t have the logitech webcam prob, and i checked the registry, everything is ok. I don;t need the registry hack for the Logitech webcam.
Thx

Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
i've found that with pc's you need to always make sure to plug the midi devices into the same ports.
Re: A tip on APC40 setup with USB Audio Device.
So glad I found this thread. I thought I was going to return this thing. Now I have a couple things to try at least. 68 views on my post and no one could send me here??
honestly, I don't think this would have been quite as annoying if AKAI hadn't made such A HUGE DEAL ABOUT HOW AMAZINGLY F'ING SIMPLY PLUG AND PLAY THIS THING IS!
@ToneDeft--I'm in Sacto...love you or hate you, you almost always crack me up...maybe we could exchange info sometime...completely understand if you're not cool with that.
Cheers
Thanks to all for the info...gonna go home now and hope it works!
p.s. The Abes also got back to me in less than 24 hours with similar advice to some of what is being said here. Great support.
