Ableton Forum

I have to say after lots of thinking and finding Ableton good for pure djing, I just finished my first Mixtape 100% on Ableton, I found
myself still missing the magic of a proper mixer and a pair of decks, the quality on the cuts that I am not possible
to get using Ableton 3band EQ, or the speed on the faders, probably down to latency issues but not sure...

Then I am going to save some money and purchase Torq from M-audio that looks very interesting and much more affordable than any other
solution.

You can always split your channels out of Ableton through a mixer for EQ's if you prefer them to anything else.

what made you choose torq over vestax vci and traktor?

I have always thought torq/exponent was a good choice.

The main reason is the price and the tools that the software offers. Traktor and Serato are unafordable for me at the moment and also you can rewire it to any software, do live looping, use vst's, and so on... Some of these tools are not handled yet by any of the other 2 time coded vinyls systems list down before...

I guess Minimal Justice System was recommending you to use separate AUDIO outs (you'll need a decent audio interface) from Live to your mixer.
assign a audio out 1 to audio track 1 (empty) in live, and then drop you audio clips in track 1, etc

You can't see the actual waveform but you can see when there are breakdowns in the song and whatnot. You can see a lot about the song structure by looking at vinyl. And the light on a turntable helps in a dark club (even though most have burnt bulbs it seems..).

That 4 deck Ableton set up is really interesting! F**ing crazy though. Hopefully ableton will at some point allow for multiple waveform viewing. It would clearly be useful for a lot of people, myself included.

Inakie, nice mix! Since you already have a DJ mixer, why don't you route seperate tracks to seperate outs on your soundcard as was suggested before? Lots of people don't like the EQ3 effect, and using a mixer is a common solution. Also, other people have built DJ eq's into effect racks as an alternative. Coincidently. I've just won/bought a license of Traktor Srcatch Duo on ebay for 35 euros! And I've found a guy locally who's selling a Vestex vci 100 for 250... I'm liking Traktor for all the reasons you guys have already said.. I'v tried djing with Live, and didn't really dig it also for the reasons you give.. tbh I don't have either the time or the desire to spend soo much time prepping.. It's bad enough just getting all the music into the computer and prepping the directories

I feel liberated to have made the distinction between 'playing' music and 'making' it...

I love Live as an environment for music production and that it has the potential of playing your music out live..

But for playing other artists 'finished' 2 track stereo masters I'm thinking I'm gonna dig Traktor more..

Seeing more than one waveform in session view is the feature i said i'd like to see integrated in Live in that recent Ableton survey. It would be ideal for me anyway if you could toggle between the names on clips and the waveforms. Currently i just flick between waveforms with midi but its not really practical.
