Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????
Re: Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????
Mpre interesting: Using FS1 (cc67) on my APC doesn't work... the timing is all messed up and it seems to switch in and out of overdub halfway thru..etc.
Using the sus pedal (cc 64) thru my RemoteSL does work as expected. Both just using cc#'s. I'll experiment with my FBC, but I don't remember having a problem with it.

Plugged in a momentary switch to my APC40 and tried looping with my guitar for an hour - ended up pissed off and ready to kick the dog.
Glad I read this thread and realizing it isn't me.

Re: Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????
Here is what I did to get looper to work the way I expected it to when "Set and Follow" tempo is selected. I also selected a fixed number of bars. I did this with vocals.
Started off with a 'bum dum bump' simple bass. Tried to get this to 'line up' using quantize set to None, but found that setting it to 1/8 worked fine and it did set the beat correctly.
Once it is looping to the beat, then everything else is easy.
It is a matter of messing with it to get your launch quantize working correctly. The manual mentions these things which are important:
"The large button below the transport controls is the Multi-Purpose Transport Button. As
with the normal transport buttons, this button’s behavior changes depending on Looper’s
current playback state, and whether or not material has already been recorded. If the buffer is empty, a single click starts recording. If Looper is recording, overdubbing or stopped, a single click switches to play mode. During playback, a click switches to overdub mode, allowing you to toggle back and forth between overdub and playback via additional single clicks.
Quickly pressing the button twice stops Looper, from either play or overdub mode. Clicking and holding the button for two seconds while in play mode activates Undo or Redo. Pressing and holding for two seconds while stopped clears Looper’s buffer."
So the duration of whatever you are sending to 'the big button' will cause it to act differently, and the state which it is in at the time the button is pressed will cause it to act differently.
The manual makes it clear that looper will "guess" at the tempo if the song is not running. What this means in the case of 'Start song' and x bars is maybe open to interpretation-- at the get go, the song it not running.

Re: Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????
Interesting. I'll test drive it right now to double check (been a few days). Sounds like a possible problem with the APC and its foot switch inputs. I'm pretty sure the multi-function pedal needs to be a midi note on my FCB.
@ Kearley: Interesting too that a cc will work through your RemoteSL. I also recall the Undo button on Looper not liking cc's from my FCB. Did you get a chance to check your FCB?

Yeh, I didn't mention I sent a note from my foot pad to work the multi function transport button. Also, I'm using a drum pad, so it will only send short duration notes. Mapped the top 6 pads on my nanoPad to the four 'mini' transport buttons in looper and undo and clear, that provides more control and it gets really fun.
I will put together a video to demo-- I don't have fancy video production equipment, but it will illustrate some things.

Re: Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????
just yesterday i discovered how looper works for my setup :
it seems to be important that the big multifunction-pedal-knob in the looper, if assigned for midi remote, gets fed with midi notes that send a note-on AND a note-off information (midi cc´s did not work for me, but maybe its the same with them, that you need a 127 followed by a 0), when i had my foot pedal sending only note-on, then it had exactly the described crazyness. i use a tech 21 midi moose - pedal and junXion to change the programchange messages of the pedal to midi notes....
maybe this helps...

Think you're totally onto something here as the Ableton Team reckon this is the way to go also...But I'm having a bit of trouble on the actual process to invert using Midi Pipe...How'd the 21 Midi moose work for you?
Also does anyone know, lets say once the inversion has taken place, does that mean i would need the MidiPipe (or whatever programme gets it to work) open in the background everytime i run Live, or will it permanently invert the signal.....Anyway, couple of useful links regarless in this thread below, particularly Midi Monitor App FWIW!!!
If anyone has any answers or experience with MidiPipe please get in touch!!!

Re: Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????
giving this thread a bump.. i did what novotnik did and it did work but now the undo/clear doesn't work with the pedal.. wondering if anyone has really got the mulitpurpose button in looper to act as ableton states..
Re: Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????
Ye, midi notes are the way to go, cc's dont work, would have been nice if ableton told us this so I didnt waste a month trying to get it working
are ppl finding that it does strange things to what u played in?
Like timing and pitch changes to original?
little scratchy clicks from my midi button assignment often? (I use a fcb1010)
starting/stopping recording and play back late?
Or the beginning of the loop is missing or muted?
(Yet if you play the first note again after you have stopped recording it IS still recorded and somewhat fixes the last problem, really weird)
This is driving me nuts and making me very angry now, for small periods its seems to work and I get excited by its potential and then its starts acting up. $500 on ableton8 and 5 months later its still un usable 'LIVE' yeah right, ironic
DOES THE LOOPER WORK BETTER PRE SNOW LEOPARD?

Re: Looper Help please - a video tutorial anyone????
NO.
IMHO it is still buggy as ever.
I have been getting clicks from fcb button presses too - out of the blue.
Never mind all the wierd shit with the tempo stuff - wierd because after deciding to go back to follow song tempo, it wouldn't, just kept on doing its thing.
Great tool, but lots of variables within different setups I guess.
Anyway, I have to deal with the bugs because I am using it a lot in a show........LOL
