Re: Frustrated waiting for APC40s in Canada...
I jumped the gun and ordered one from Sweetwater in the US. Should be here tomorrow afternoon. Now I've got a good spot (top 20% says guy from L&M Waterloo) in line with Long and Mcquade and I haven't yet cancelled should I hold it so that I could then just sell that APC to somebody local? It'd be $503 and I'd do it out of the kindness in my loving heart haha. glitchrock buddha (or anybody else in the tri city area) im lookin at you. let me know what you think.

I think the frustration is felt worldwide. While I think everyone hoped it would be a hit, I don't think either Ableton or Akai dared to dream it would be as big a hit as it has been. Not only are they still chasing backorders, but they're doing a really poor job of taking care of their dealers.
The big guys (GC, Sweetwater, etc) are on their second and third BIG shipments of APC40's while many smaller dealers haven't yet gotten their first shipment. That dealer agreement should be a two-way street. Those indie shops do a lot of work to promote the brands they offer and keep up to speed on the current offerings, the least the manufacturer can do is give them clear communication and give them a reasonable timetable for delivery.
I can understand why Akai would ship large numbers of units to the big accounts - one big fat invoice is much easier for the accounting department, and the faster the cash starts flowing the sooner they can ramp production up. But it sucks to leave the little guys hanging.
I was very fortunate to have gotten mine last month. But in the last week have talked to more than a dozen people who gave up the ghost on their indie shop backorder and take delivery of something they got from the big stores because those guys have them sitting on shelves in stock.

So I heard a few apc40's are supposed to arrive at solotech tomorrow. Has anyone heard that Moog Audio will also have theirs?
I'm seriously thinking of ordering from sweetwater, but it would end up 75$ more considering duties...

I ended up getting mine from sweetwater. Duty was 60 bucks. With the currency conversion and price, I probably didn't lose much. So I can't say I've following the canadian APC40 supply (or lack thereof) anymore...
I highly suggest sweetwater by the way, helpful and friendly people there.

I've used sweetwater before on cheaper stuff, loved their service.
But this site www.thefinalcost.com calculates brokerage fees and duty, exchange rate, etc...
Today it would end up being $598, instead of $520 including sales tax at moog.
I'll wait maybe another week, but after that I'll be going with sweetwater. The situation is getting ridiculous.

It looks like that is based on ups though?MacGuffin wrote:I've used sweetwater before on cheaper stuff, loved their service.

Sweetwater gives the option of ups or express mail. UPS will ding you about 120 bucks duty, whereas regular mail only charged about 65. So my cost was 399 usd (433 can) + 45 (shipping)+ 65 canadian. = 528 canadian

the site lets you choose which company. My "sales engineer" at sweetwater told me that sweetwater only uses fedex for international shipping, and that they would charge me $43 (US) for the shipping.
Otherwise the exchange rate is super good these days, if it weren't for duties and brokerage fees it would be cheaper to order from the States.
How did you get them to send it by express mail?
Maybe it's because I'm in Quebec?

I've pre-ordered mine from Long and McQuade. The store expects the units to arrive any day now. I'm getting tired of waiting!
P.S. 2 weeks ago Play de Record had 3 APC40s in stock (perhaps the units are still available?) but the store is (unjustifiably) charging $545 CDN + tax so I decided to wait for L&M ($502 CDN w/ tax).

Seriously, this is friggin ridiculous. I was lucky enough to pick mine up a few months ago while on a business trip in the states. A friend of mine ordered one from Moog a few weeks before I picked up mine.... he is STILL waiting for his. Seriously bad Customer Service.
I feel for anyone who doesn't have one yet. They're friggin awesome

Oh right, I forgot about the shipping cost (I thought I forgot something). That was about 40 usd. So my total was around 530.MacGuffin wrote:the site lets you choose which company.
