they are not happy down here about the "handshakes" when the 100's came up.

Re: Ashes News.
Great test cricket. Great ending to thre match, tense as a fucker! I was right sweating it.
I think the Aussies missed a couple of chances when Siddle was pumelling Swann, needed more men round the bat.
but hey, not complaining. 0-0 it is.
although...Aus always win at Lord's...

Re: Ashes News.
LOL - pontin had his bottom lip out in the press down here about the "time wasting" at the end. i prefer the term gamesmanship.

I agree, I felt he left it too late. Risking the weather etc.
On the other hand, Swanny and Colly were immense.

Re: Ashes News.
i thought the declaration was spot on at the time. left us with a good arvo session where we got 2 wickets and then a full days play the next.
the fact is the bowlers weren't quite good enough. would have liked to see mitchell johnson bowl in the last 2 or 3 overs. i think some chin music to the tail-enders would have been a good thing instead of part time spin.
no matter who you support it was a good test to watch. there'll be more of this nail biting to come i reckon...bring it on!

Agreed, just reinforces view of Ponting as a great batsman but mediocre captain.i think some chin music to the tail-enders would have been a good thing instead of part time spin.
After 5 days at one stage there was a part time bowler (Clarke) bowling against England's last two tail enders in a desperate attempt to win a game which eventually finished in a draw, in as exiting a test finish as there has been for a long time. What a bonkers - but great - game!
Roll on Lords!
Re: Ashes News.
He did try to bring Johnson back for a spell but he was all over the place, radar totally shot. Couldnt risk the wides I guess, no pressure.
Still, I agree, seemed strange to bring in part timers at such a crucial stage.

Re: Ashes News.
Yeah, I was really frustrated at this. They had the new ball which I think was only about 10 overs old when part timers North and Clarke were bowling, so where was Hilfenhouse, the only guy who consistently swung the ball through-out the match??? AND he took wickets!!!UKRuss wrote:

Oh well, on to Lords!

If there ever was a sporting metaphor for having your pants pulled down in public and having your arse spanked by an entire team of aussies...then Headingly was it.
But I tell you what..
It sets up a cracker for the Oval and I am there on the opening day!

Re: Ashes News.
Oh, and well played by the way. What a come back.
North really looks a great prospect and Clarke is a man compared to the boy that lost in 2005.
Very impressive stuff.
