we've got so many people here makin so many different types of music for different purposes that testing tunes for mono compatibility in your genre of choice from artists you respect would be the best approach.

i got to agree with leisuremuffin too. most clubs (dance / electronic music) i've either played at live or gone to as a punter are running stereo systems...even the dodgy ones!

Another question to try to understand mono monitoring a bit more.




Will i get the correct mono sound to my ONE speaker if i put a utility plugin on the master track, then hook my monitor up to the headphone jack. I have a stereo type plug/cable though(1/4" jack to XLR, it has the 2 black stripes on the metal tip).

Also, since i'm only using one speaker (Mixcube), if i feed it a stereo signal, would the speaker sum it to mono automatically?

if you sum the stereo buss to mono with said plug, L and R will be identical. Use either channel to any speaker. Same diff.

I figured as much, but if i use the headphone jack to output to my one speaker i'll be sending out a dual mono signal into one speaker, is that going to be fine?

put your playback monitor L n R on faders in your mixer and mute one side.

I was referring to a little monitor mixer of sorts. I suppose you have your i/o out going straight to your speakers.

If there's is no L n R mute on live's main buss, you could try half plugging the phone jack. Just pull it out a millimeter or two until one side gives way or pull one out of one speaker.

Well i actually use my Virus TI as my output so i do have a seperat L/R speaker output, so obviously i can just unplug my main monitors, plug my mixcube into one channel and throw on a utility plug in Live to get the mono summing, of course i was just trying to achieve that through the headphone jack so i don't have to always keep switching out cables.

you could put a switch in the phone cable to cut one side?
