the electronic brand is still far eastern, the 'akaipro' stuff is numark, and who knows where it is made. I'm guessing still in China, but with the head offices in the USA somewhere. I doubt that the product originates there though.
IE - it's not shipped out of the US, it's shipped in.

The USA has about a third of the population of Europe at the very most, so that doesn't make sense either.
really? I thought it was roughly the same? isn't it round the 300 million mark for both? Oh - except the EU beast had a growth spurt recently, didnt it.
either way, population may not necessarily equate to size of market - or at least perception of the market in the Akai upper echelons
The combined total of the UK, France, Germany, Spain & Italy alone matches the USA.
Even Ableton is a German company, so to say there isn't a market here is a bit daft. Maybe consumerism works different in Europe to the USA.
I didn't say there isn't a market there, I said that maybe the US market is bigger OR Akaipro has the perception that it is
I dunno I just find it hard to believe it's ALL down to "rip off britain" style taxes etc
I was also guessing that maybe there is a bit more involved in distribution in Europe

are there music store chains in europe.. like Guitar Center or Sam Ash in the states? or is it basically just small shops and a few larger ones?
the GC I got mine at had 5 upon release and they got a second shipment about a week after that from what i understand. if every GC in the states did that, that's quite a few units they've sold. within 50 miles of orange county, there are 13 GC's and 7 sam ash stores. so they must be selling a bunch just here in southern california.

that's kind of what I was driving at - I'd imagine there's not so many of those kinds of big chains crossing all the different language barriers

£400 for a numark midi controller

You can buy a pair of their decks for half that. Anyone remember the utterly horrific...'dj in a box'

We do get raped for everything in the UK though so why not add audio gear to the list

I think that it's roughly the same price across Europe.
Thomann are selling it at €449 which is about £383 GBP ($632 USD), not really too much difference from the standard UK retail of £399
It'll sort it self out a bit when they get onto the second or third revision.

So on average you guys are making just about the price of an APC40 more than we do per year? Mystery solved!
