Me, I've got the least amount of frineds out of everyone I know on facebook (a whopping 37 of them), and I am not looking to expand that circle, especially with family members.

As long as my fam stays out of Abletonia it's all okay with me.

My parents aren't on my friends list but my Aunts, cousins, and an odd assortment of school chums who I never kept in touch with are. I really don't give a rats arse about what they think about my pissed rantings....I find it quite cathartic, raving to myself, thinking that anyone else remotely gives a fuck about ANYTHING I have to say.

That's what I've got going on...people in school that I barely liked who are now bearing crotchfruit, voting republican, and either posting about how great church was or how funny Ashton Kutcher is when he twitters. Ugh.

Well, If that is the case, I'm not sure I like it. I also don't like the idea of having to censer my self. Nor do I like the fact that everybody on face book seems happy, prosperous, successful, living exciting and interesting lives, etc..... While I am barley hanging on by a thread financially, trying to raise 2 kids, and balance my dreams passions of music. Somehow I feel like I might not really belong on facebook.

Facebook is like a high school reunion where only the beautiful and successful people show up. Wasn't it started as a means for students to keep in touch with their fellow classmates from college and high school? Which lead to their parents keeping in touch with them....which lead to anybody with an email account joining. Perhaps the reason for the politeness and seemingly successful members is it started as parents keeping up with their kids and most people don't have the balls to say "Fuck off, you have no business here" so the vast majority have to put on a happy and successful appearance so they don't get caught by the family who most of us lie too on some level but those lies were never trackable before in real time.

Actually the other night while driving home from tahoe at 1:00 am, I was listening to a segment on NPR about the founder of facebook. Apparently he started it after getting dissed on a bad date at Harvard and wanted "revenge"....
Also he seems to have burned those who were close "in the day" and helped to start it......
He seems like a sociopath with no feeling for anybody but his own vision.......
Maybe it is better than I am not a brick in that wall....Not like My righteousness is not tainted in other endeavors

I finally decided to cave and get an account and it did a search for my email contacts to see if anyone I email is on facebook. apparently my grandmother is on facebook... which is weird cause she died like 4 years ago.

I will say it probably is the best networking site for finding people and people finding you but beyond that it seems like a glorified twitter, sorta makes me appreciate myspace.

It would be nice if somebody made a really slick site for unsigned music artists that attracted more than just other unsigned music artists.

I havent been on any social networking sites in a year or so. It doesnt bother me or effect me in any way. My social life has been busier than ever before.

After having my mother figure out I was messing around with a married woman from our neighborhood i decided to keep two different accounts on myspace. Trying to explain why I do things like that to my mother was very awkward. Plus Im into wierd shit I dont want to have to explain to everyone else.

I get suggestions about who to invite as a friends, but have never been invited to be a friend without some sort of message being attached which had to be written by the person doing the inviting. Just today I got an invite from an old girl friend (I think... yes its a bit hazy...) and I can't figure out why she is contacting me. Last email contact was 4 months ago on my birthday, which I ignored. Is this the type of email activity you are suggesting FB phish's for?

When you sign up for facebook or twitter it fishes the contacts linked to the email account you use for the site and then makes recommendations based on those addresses of people that are on facebook. Some email like gmail will add addresses to your address book even if you just had the most minimal of exchanges. I mistranslated the process when I signed up and thought those suggestions were actually people who knew me asking me to be their friend so I gave everybody it suggested the green light, but I was in fact asking them to be my friend. So between it fishing, dumbasses like me mistranslating the process, new accounts being created, and people using these sites as a body count popularity contest you are going to get friend invites that make you go wtf? Maybe everybody who has invited you has also written a personal message but they don't have to. They can just invite without a personal message.

I'm not sure if it also randomly fishes for new accounts in your address book while you are a member

I see your right. Last night for an experiment, I logged on and gave a green light to one of the "friend requests"....
And as you correctly state, I was actually requesting them to be my friend.
Between myspace and this (plus a few other) forum, my social networking is satisfied...... All those people from high-school and college, old girlfriends and such, If I wanted to keep in touch, I would have. I am a believer in letting go of relationships and friendships when they have played themselves out, and no need to rehash the "glory days"..... Especially family, they are people I would rather pick up the phone and call me.
