I don't know if Jackson was the first but he made it famous when he did it in his song billie jean with his white crystal studded glove.

MJ learned the moonwalk (actually called a backslide as a moonwalk is a totally different move) and all of his popping and locking related dance moves from Popin' Taco. Look it up. If you find old videos from back in the day (usually misspelled as "poppin taco" or "pop n taco") you'll start to see that he's the real dancer behind MJ. MJ is like a watered down version of Taco with crotch grabs. and the backslide had been around forever, MJ never invented a fucking thing besides those shoes that clip on to the stage.
