Nope I'm 6'1", my house is very old and my bedroom is in the roof space. It's a bit like being in a big tent, I can only stand upright in the middle of it.

Back on topic though, I often have kit spread out on the living room floor or set up so I can work sitting on the sofa. I'm happy to sit cross legged for hours, I find it more comfortable than sitting on a chair.

I'm retarded so I don't know how to sit on my chair, so I allways have a feet under my ass on the chair, and then I allways have serious "itching" in one leg... call me dumb but I really like the stand up idea.

the electribes are in rocking out while standing position... tweaking and programming sequences... that comes from the days i used only those two to rock live tunes out. the padKONTROL is in a position for both, sitting and standing (i often like to drum on them while standing)

and the rest is comfy for sitting, i choose the desk for that type of setup on purpose... i looked a hell lot around for something suitable...
as the jerker from ikea is now discontinued

that's why i have setup my joint 70% sitting and 30% standing... that way i have some physical action as well and keep on moving, get less tired and keep myself in action... sitting the whole day is killing so is standing. you need a change.

Similiar here. I've got my stand up rig, with my instruments and latop, and perpindicular I have a desk with a large monitor, keyboard and mouse with a chair for long editing sessions. So it's more like 70% standing and 30% sitting.

Nice thread! I've been feeling this way for a while, the room i'm in is too dark and the desk is built in. Does get a bit stagnant sometimes. So i've set up a desk in an alcove in my living room by the window. Much better light and an actual view out the window! It's at the right height so i can stand as well.

No room for the monitors but i've been thinking of getting a set of little usb ones anyway. Thanks for the motivation!

yeah, i don't know how it is for others, but as my home studio is more for writing music then only mixing, recording, etc. the whole feel of the environment is from utter importance to me, i need to feel, cosy and well, just good sitting there... otherwise only dark music comes out of me.

the room is too small.

I have record shelves around the perimeter room.
the shelves just over 3 feet tall.

equipment is placed strategically on top of the shelves

everything is at a working height, like a comfortable dj set up.

all data devices on one side of room(computer, drives printer)

all music devices in the center(mpc4000, keystation 88, ensoniqesq/m)

all audio on the other side(sound card, turntable, amp...)

I have a sit down myself, but most of the time (If I'm really vibin with the production) I cant help but to stand for the most part and just jam to it while I think of other parts to add loll...I cant help it, I really get that into it. Just kick the chair to the side and do my thing.

I agree that being able to change position is a very good thing. I now have stations for standing up, sitting in a chair, & sitting on the floor. Ah, variety!

One thing I have done on occasion is to build a performance instrument -something that I can work with in the same way in the studio & on stage. Just like a traditional instrument, it retains the same shape in either mode. Makes playing the thing more intuitive & familiar. My advice to anyone who want to try this: invest in a good stand or two, & some self-adhesive velcro.

I should explore this hybrid solution myself.

For the electribes part, I feel a strange need to get back to "real" machines (I still have my RM1X), because it feels much more like a "real" instrument, and sometimes it is just cool and refreshing just to play, not tweaking parameters with a mouse or a midi controller... I'm soon getting a juno 2, and I KNOW I'll pass some times just playing with it, and then, I'll need to be standing up!
