Exactly.. it's a fundamental flaw in human nature

The people who want that kind of power and identity are by nature not the kind of people you want having power over you..

I tried to google an image of the ceiling mural in the US Congress.. it's a weird godlike depiction of George Washington that I'm sure he would have hated..

but I found this instead, which is better in a lot of ways:
