I think the landing page of a musican's website should have the music right there, easy to see, easy to play, easy to buy. Your new layout is clean, but it's also a portal with no music or store. You're asking your audience to visit a website, and when they arrive they then have to decide what website they need to go to. It's a bit like the Nebuale Bus Station.

But clean is good, and what do I know? My music site is more of a blog than anything else.
you want this i bet. I'm gonna go there but need to plan my next tweaks first.

I don't disagree at all. The thing is that I tried a blog and I posted content, and I just didn't see any results. I also agree that a message board is not necessarily the best vehicle. But for me, I want something where I can post stuff FAST, and as you well know, I'm very used to posting on a board :P

Also, with my collaborations, a board is a great way to intercommunicate with other people I'm working with. So I think this will help in two ways. Content posting, and communication. Whether or not it builds a community is up to the dynamics of the Interwebs and if it becomes a point of convergence or not. Personally, I'd love to converge in a completely unmoderated forum and say whatever the fuck I like. :P

As for having music on the page I land, I've had that as well, and people have asked me for a download option. That's cool, but again too much work for me. I have to maintain a database, and upload shit, and set up permissions. Too much work - let Bandcamp do all that.

Anyways, I agree with all your points - I think for me, this is gonna be an interesting experiment. (My first attempt was to make nebulae.com a BB right from the landing page, but then I opted for some green sci-fi fonty bullshit...

^ i've setup one of these> http://www.phpbb.com/ and it wasn't too bad. It's pretty simple, worked well but forums still take a learning curve and a bit of management.

The dashboard is about twice the size of WP's but i recommend phpbb 3.x Same as Abe's :)

Hey, maybe everyone should sign up for Neb's board... this way, if the Abe's ever get fed up and start controlling this board more, we can use Neb's place as a splinter-group site. I mean, it would be kind of sad, but at least we would be able to.... umm.... to keep..... uhh.... we could uh... or when new software comes out we can.... talk about....

Nevermind. No Gerhard, no fun.

No no, it's not ABOUT me, it's run by me. It's about chickens stuck up people's butts. Especially in the Unmoderated Bullshit section. See you there...the last truly free place on the web.
I'll see the rest of you fucktards there in 10

I followed the instructions to upgrade from 3.04 to 3.05, and it FUBARed the board. So I'm working with the host to get it back up. If it doesn't work, I'll just restart from scratch tonight.

Sorry, folks, rookie mistake...won't happen again.

i have been poking around on band camp for a few minutes.. started a profile yadda
pretty cool.. i thin ki'll have to mess with it some more to see if i like it
so far i like the download options allot...

i really like allot of features on reverbnation
especial the widgets and the rss feeds
i only have to update my calender in two place now...
plus i like the fan collector.
i wish i could combine a few of the band camp features with reverbnation.
