As for upgrading, I learn my lessons from the pain of others, not exactly having the time to invest in early adoption and the issues included. Having said that, the only time I see crashes is when I throw way too much at the software - I'm still on FCP 5.1, for christs sake, all for the love of a stable system that I know instead of learning tons of new shit and not getting anything creative done. Again, a proper perspective I see plenty of people using in both Mac and PC camps.

Mac vs. PC? Couldn't care less if your hammer says stanley on it's new jacketed-fiberglass grip, my wood handled hammer still pounds nails, has since long before my grandfather passed it to me.

I had more bags and serious hang ups with my new Leaopard based MacbookPro, than with XP based home made PC. Maybe due to Nvidia 8600Gt card, I dunno. So the myth of OSX stability have dispersed over me. And I have not been making any serious music on it - just browsing, some photoshop and notes. I still like it's design though, but it works on Win7 now.

I hate PCs with a vengeance, pointless dull dreary and uninspiring pieces of bollocks.

Just opening anything microsoft makes me feel sick inside, it is amazing to me how such a massive company can be full of such a huge amount of creatively void idiots.

To say that Mac's 'just work' and Windows will inevitably give you a ton of headaches is just nonsense and propaganda.

Yea, that's a terrible bug. At least the data can be retrieved using Time Machine or other backup means. It's often been thought that the more Apple grows, the more problems it will have. Not too hard to have a stable and efficient OS when you're focus is so narrow, unlike Microsoft which serves 95% of the business world and most of the consumer world too, on a limitless variety of systems. Much like Ableton....I never ever had any problems until v8, which is the biggest version yet, and now I get a crash every few weeks (better in 8.0.5 of course).

Though fewer than 100 Snow Leopard users have reported experiencing data loss, information security researcher Jonathan Zdziarski said this bug is considered a serious “screwup” in IT. He theorized the problem could be that the Mac OS confused the home folder for a guest account and accidentally flushed out the data.

Not at all knocking the <100 users, just putting this shit into perspective. Not even close to the most serious bug in history. Personally I'm done with upgrading my software every time a new version comes out, let all you GAS types bug fix Snow Leopard and Windows 7 etc. It's insane to me how people think this stuff can't happen really.

OS 10.5.4 Live 8.04. no crash. However it happened with 8.05, when I tried to save as.

Alright, I could be wrong here, but I'm willing to wager that you had more than 3 crashes from Live in a 5-year period, regardless of what platform/hardware you're using.
That sounds like either an exaggeration, straight bullshit, or you did not open Live very often in that 5 year period.

Anyhow, I'm fully in agreement with you that user-error is the source of a good majority of most computer related problems in general, again, regardless of platform.
And yes, Apple's "just works" advertising is obviously a marketing ploy, just like all the other adverts in the world that promise you a cozy, teat-suckling existence if you just buy "product Z".

In regards to Windows stability with Live, it can be debated forever, particularly within the "fantasy realm" of whose advertising campaign appears cooler, and how the platform affects your personal image, which always seems to be the heavier weighing issues in these debates.

Personally, I always get a good chuckle from a friend of mine who is a fellow Live user, and an extremely outspoken Apple hater. He has crashes with Ableton quite frequently, has had to re-install several times, had to re-install the entire operating system, etc. Still will defend windows to death.
When we tried to do over the internet collaborations with Ableton using the virtual glass plugin, his oh so superior Windows machine crashed every time, no matter what we tried, even after speaking with the developer of the plugin and getting his advice on configurations.
Then after over an hour trying to get it to work before we ended up giving up, he was irritated, saying "I thought this shit was possible, what the fuck?". I told him it was possible, and I already done so quite reliably.
The difference? Not which version of live, NOT internet speed, the other sessions had been with another mac, and neither of us had to make a single adjustment to OS X, Live, hardware or routers.
We logged in, and started working.

I am a Mac user since the Apple II

I find in general, Mac's are way more stable than they used to be.

OSX = a great OS, much better than 9, 8, 7, etc.

However, I do find I get more crashes in Leopard (pretty rare, and usually on shutdown of apps strangely) than I did in Tiger.

I hear Snow Leopard is better, but I am taking my time to upgrade.

You see the problems they're starting to cause?? The Landwhale's Mac crashed his friend's PC...
