even then I'm sure they'll sell out.
I believe I can use Launchpad with other apps, as it sends MIDI messages, right?

Yes, but apparently it doesn't work that well with everything.. Something about the automap software, I hear.

I don't think 'slimmer' really counts since it's 4x the size. Just sayin.

Ok well withthis eletronics config they can make a bus powered 128- which is cool- but does nothing for this. Would love to see these guys do something new and dope.
..and to say the most.
The main point is that the other Monome 'flavors' aren't available anymore. They release a certain 'style' for a while, then create a new one. People are just saying it looks good, which is one of the main things about the Monome. The controller itself is about minimalism, not adding new features every new look.

Well, it looks good, but for me the monomes look good because they're so perfectly small. Even the Monome 256 is only 10.75"x10.75". So there's functionality as one of the main draws over the clones. I don't really care about the color of the case.

Having said that, it's hard to justify the price of them now that we have the afforadable Launchpad which can do more with Live, other than to say "Look, I'm a member of the Monome owning elite clique who are morally and financially superior."

It's a shame that's how you see it. If people are willing to pay extra for something they really want, why are they looked upon like they're saying "Look, I'm a member of the Monome owning elite clique who are morally and financially superior?" The same bullshit happens when someone buys Apple. It's a shame really.

To each their own. If I decide to buy a Mac and a Monome, I shouldn't be looked that that way. Especially if I don't have that kind of attitude.

And if anyone does look at people who buy higher priced items that way, regardless of their attitude, maybe they're the insecure ones and the ones with the real attitude problem.

Well, I have a Mac and I hear your point too. I guess I was just expressing my point about how I personally can't justify paying the price for a monome when there's Launchpad by adding what seems to be a common stereotype about Monome owners. I don't actually think every Monome owners thinks like that. And I do think the Monome is a morally superior product. But Launchpad has more functionality and is cheaper so for better or worse, Novation gets my money.

Mac users have the black turtleneck, but what piece of fashion to the monome elite have?

Funny, I certainly get the sort of 'pampered white neo hippy lays down $1400 when he should have given most of that cash to the local food pantry' vibe when it comes to the monome, but what a lot of folks don't get is that the thing is a work of art. It's sculpture. Functional sculpture. People lay down cash to get a monome for the same reason that they pay upwards of $4000 for this Mies chair and ottoman:

It's fucking ART, man. :P
