Putting the word successful in front of just about every interest or career generally means they are doing well financially off it, except for possibly rapist.

I saw the Pixies last week, I LOVE that band, great show. after a few songs Kim Deal asks "who has tickets for tomorrow's show?" the place went nuts. then she said "it's a waste of time because we're going to do the same songs in the same order." Frank and Joey shook their heads in disapproval and turned around. what a bitch. after "Weird In My School" she said "well, not everyone has learned all the songs yet." she put me off buying a t-shirt afterwards, screw her. side story: years ago my cousin opened for the Breeders, rode around town with Kim in the limo, said she was really cool and easy to talk to. go figure.

successful? yes. happy? doesn't seem like it.

I know people who are comparably miserable/bored when there isn't some drama or bullshit going down frequently so on some twisted level they are happy when something is making them unhappy.

Saw the Pixies early this year in a large theatre type show. Excellent show, I was amazed how fresh and energetic they were. I was so happy that they are a viable touring band instead of a nostalgia cash in act. Kim was high as a kite on something, kept flubbing basslines, had to restart Gigantic, and generally had a 'tude.

I saw the Breeders later this year in a tiny club gig, and Kim and Kelly were on fire. Lots of banter, they were having a great time and Kim was vocally and technically on the money the whole time, it was like a whole different person.

I think Frank just rubs her the wrong way!

I've been to the breeders show last year ...was amazing...
but if you see the film about the reunion.... she states that she's a recovering drug addict...
and her sister goes anywhere with her to see she doesn't fall off the wagon...
also...there's bad blood there...
Kim's an amazing artist...in her own rights
