The macro are actually textbuttons, i have them set to ignore click, and then colour them the same as the background of the live dial.... A rounded corner of 8 matches the top curve of the dial with me using two textbuttons to fill the space....
Machinate put me on to it in the beta forum so props to him!!
Cheers

Hehe. Good old Machinate. He actually messaged me the solution before I read this reply.
Cheers to both. I'll go dress up a device

hi,
very nice device, a very good example of a "simple" device improving Live's flexibility.

Nice one! I'm actually working on the same EXACT functionality: progressing to the next clip in line when hitting clip_end to work with tracks broken up into sections. Looks like you've gotten a little further along than I have, I just have the basic functionality working where it goes to the next clip and inhibits that behavior when looping is active.
I'm planning on extend the concept further by including the ability to redirect to any clip I choose within a track at clip_end. So, for example if I have clips labeled Chorus 1, Verse 1, Chorus 2, Verse 2, and Chorus 3, I can tell Chorus 1 to skip to Verse 2 at clip_end, seamlessly skipping over Verse 1 and Chorus 2 and essentially allowing me to re-sequence a song arbitrarily and on-the-fly.
I think our workflows might be pretty similar. Hit me up with a PM if you'd be interested in collaborating.

It's thanks to you building your patch mate, my previous attempt had 7 metro's and counters with increasilingly complex if statements to decide which counter was the real time, i lost myslef by the end of it so was so pleased to see the patch you posted being the basis of what i needed....

Love the work you're both doing. My sets include a lot of old funk and disco re-edits with varying tempos. At the moment I set up manual loop points in Traktor Pro and mix on the loop points (using Soundflower to channel into Ableton for effects). I've been thinking of setting something similar up myself. Using follow actions to re-edit on the fly (the obvious challenge of old funk and disco being their un-quantised quality). Due of the un-quantised nature of the original material the process will need to be slightly different though because the follow action will need to be triggered by a physical cue point (when clip A reaches point x trigger clip b). From what I understand the work you've done so far is tied to metrical timing.
Anyway, can't wait to have a dabble with your patch. Top work fellas!

First loop, value seems to be correct but after there is a delay.
Just compare to the clip tempo.
It's strange. Anyone did noticed that?

Here's a exemple, look at the playing_position result and the real clip position,
at 0 in track view playing_position's value is 7.91

That's because you're doing an 8 bar loop and the metronome seems to poll a fraction of a millisecond before the actual beat. So for the first beat you get 0.998 instead of 1 and 1.987 instead of 2, etc. all the way to 8, which immediately rolls over to 0, is actually being polled at 7.91.
This lack of precise sync between the Live transport and the metro object is a huge pain in the ass when it comes to trying kludge together triggering absolute positions on a session clip. I worked on your patch a little bit and constructed what I think should solve your problem. I did some rounding of the float to an int, and put in some logic to have it reset back the loop_start at the end of the length. Compare your original playback_position message (I marked the text in red) with my improved number box readout (marked in yellow). I also colored other points of interest to help show my logic.

Cheers man, the follow actions within the patch are calculated to trigger at half a beat before clip end i cut all my tracks into parts and then crop the samples so that they all have a definitive end which then makes the patch work great. I may be misunderstanding metrical? but i think the patch works as you've described you want it to?
Cheers

Just wanted to point out that I finished my patch that heavily uses playing_position, and I think a few people in this thread would be very interested in it. I posted a thread about it
here.
