download a new VST! I'm only kidding of course. Downloading a new synth and then trying to figure it out is a great way to distract yourself from the fact you don't have an idea.

I've been writing songs for a while now. I don't think 'writers block' is some sort of external condition..I don't believe it exists. I just think that sometimes you can write good stuff, and sometimes you can't.
The key is to still do it though. To try and write all the time and keep the muscle exercised, even if you just produce crap. There's no secret, no quick fix...you just have to be READY when everything lines up in your favour.

Take 1 gram of ground cannabis and place in rolling paper*, twist, lick, light and inhale.
**Warning! Adding tobacco is a nasty Eurogoon way of stretching the smoke. DO NOT beleive that this helps in any other way besides financially - saying it taste good may cause flames, but not the kind used to ignite herb. Do not operate heavy machinery while twisting, lighting or inhaling. Ask your doctor if he's tried cannabis.
Your insanity may not be gone, but you probably won't remember where you left it.

three weeks ago i bought the APC-40,
haven't gotten INTO writers block since.......i just can't stop........
but then again,i never write music,i "just fool around with ideas" and store them(which is what Live's sessionview&the APC-40 are all about to me),and record all those bits and pieces into one big soundscape.

I just go an appreciate other mediums and take it in... (Music, Video Games, Movies, Art)
I've personally been in a rut for a few months, but I've been working on a sound design project, and I'm at a crossroads musicality wise. Haven't even really been able to mess around with my launchpad either. :\

Im starting to believe this is the secret. I listened to the audio commentary for John Cleese's Fawlty Towers, and he talked about a writers block condition during the writing of it. He said that some days it just flowed, and some days he had to literally pound out every word through clenched teeth. But the secret was to sit down every single day to work and write.

It's true. The good stuff is always something like 30% inspiration, 70% perspiration. Particularly at the ideas & lyrics stage (in my case), but also at the tracking and mixing.
