And the iPhone was actually rock solid upon initial release. Connection problems on AT&T's end, but relatively few issues with the hardware/software.
Let me guess, you're one of the rich hipsters who got lucky with your purchase. Kudos.
I stand by the correctness of my earlier post, and I'm a mac user, writing this from my late 2009 macbook pro. No troll here, just the facts, jack.

it is a Big fat iphone for reading books on, browsing the internet, doing some word processing and generally looking like a yuppy with. It will be too expensive for a year or so but will then become the standard for ebooks. Then civilisation will collapse. The end

I am now going to buy your screen name from you, along with a new iPad.

My prediction:john doe by choice wrote:And where was I wrong?
First version has no USB port, eventually 9 months later a version comes out with a USB port.
This is more like what happened with the Macbook Pros. No Firewire 800 on the first versions, they ran fine though.
Count me as someone who's disappointed that it's looking like it will only run App Store apps.
They don't have to do that, but it's safer etc...

Hmm. Read on a number of places where it will have both USB and Firewire.
Firewire. Now THAT would be funny, lol.

I'll be surprised if it doesn't have a USB port if for no other reason than people wanting to plug in a keyboard.Machinesworking wrote:My prediction:john doe by choice wrote:And where was I wrong?

As far as lack of traditional software installation I'd say people need to take a serious look at the apps on the iphone and the future possibilities with the tablet. It's far from handicapped.

Beats you're such the hopeless fanboy.
it's limited in that it's a relatively weak ARM processor. weak compared to our DAWs, more powerful than traditional cell phones. that's what I read in some rumors, we'll know more later.

Well, let's be honest. Processing power isn't quite there yet to turn this uber thin device into something with MacBook capability. That'll happen though, sure as shit. A year or two?

IMO you're looking at it wrong. the processing power is out there, they chose to keep the cost and heat down on the device (no noisy, ugly, bulky fans.)
portable devices will always get the smaller microprocessors while servers get the biggest, desktops after that, then notebooks, then internet appliances, then handheld stuff. 10 years from now cell phones will be like our desktops are today (given Moore's Law) but the high end of technology will make that look stupid simple. it's all relative. IMO. not even Apple or Microsoft can really predict this stuff.
Beats - it's just funny, kinda taking the piss. it'll be interesting to see what they release.

Sorry, yes. Everything you said was true. The chips are there, but they would require cooling and that would defeat the purpose. Processors without so much heat gain is what's needed, but I keep reading they are coming. heh.
