I wonder if it ever happens with other FW cards or it is just M audio problem. that whole thing made me sceptical about FW in general- for the stage that is. So I wanted to get Indigo DJ , just for stage but if it is only M audio problem then I might buy Presonus instead.

Mine disconnected all the time too. I took it back and bought/exchanged it for a PreSonus Firebox instead. Same firewire connection on the same PC -- yet I've had zero problems. Typical M-Audio crap. Take it back, don't waste any time.

i'll tell you what, i have a project mix i/o (basically a glorified version of the 410) and it has given me soooo many problems. i NEVER had a problem with my edirol fa-101. my suggestion? trade the m-audio for an edirol and you'll have zero problems.

my FW410 has started disconnecting as well recently.
it happens randomly for no reason...
i don't touch any cable or wire, and suddenly the unit disconnects, then starts again (which makes me think it's a power supply thing), and then i can reset it in Live.
i think it's out of warranty.
makes me scared for live performances.

I have changed my PCI/Firewire card with NEC chip for the new one with VIA chip and voila, no problems, no disconnecting, only pure music with FW410

My fw1814 is running great with a good pc power supply and a TI firewire chipset. Never disconnects and let's hope it never begins again, it was hell with other chipsets.

only time my firewire audiophile (4-pin/ac-adaptor) ever has disconnected on me was when I was doing a livegig in the middle of the woods with a diesel generator as the only powersource for the WHOLE system (PA, 3 computers and two synths running).
I have seen quite a few shows gone bad though with M-Audio Ozone cards, I think they probably deliver crap AC-adaptors with their cards. That in combination with non VIA/TI firewire chipsets seems to make things go really bad.
After my friend switched from a NEC firewire controller to a TI-based one he has had ZERO problems.
So, it could be crappy drivers in combination with crappy drivers in combination with crappy hardware ^ 2?

let's try to change cable first... then I'll try with a new ac adapter and lastly with a new fw card... but I don't have enough money to change audio interface...
did you ever tried to plug the adapter in a stabilizer? an electrician told me it could be the only solution

My 410 works fine ok on my laptop but is having problems(CPU spikes, etc) on my desktop. I tried another firewire cable, didn't fix the problem, will upgrade the firewire adapter to a VIA one, I think could be that, or all this IRC issues, anyone with any other ideas, greatly appreciated...

Hey there! I bought a super-deal (12€) trust firewire dv410 pcmcia card and the problem is fixed!!!
Ah, by the way, the box contained 1 6-6pin cable and 1 4-6pin one... the card has 6pins ports but I found that using the 4-6 cable in my internal port (laptop), instead of the cable supplied by m-audio, the problem vanishes!!!
Hey m-audio thanks for such a high quality cable!
