Now I shall share with you my brilliant idea! Back when I didn't know any better and used windows, I mapped a hotkey to the blank.scr screensaver file. Not sure if you can do it in Win7 but get the properties for the file and in one of the tabs there was an option to assign a hot key command.

I would hit ctl-alt-b and instant black screen. Then move your mouse and it's back to normal. Great for A/B'ing things and you don't need to install any other software etc etc..
