Solid State Drive vs 7200 rpm
Re: Solid State Drive vs 7200 rpm
I think what he meant to say was that having internal drive won't help you (with regard to Ableton that is, your PC will still fly) if you're still accessing your sample library off an external drive (or Non SSD secondary Drive if you have one.) Its OK to keep your libraries on a storage drive (duh) but your Current Sets and Projects should be on the main internal SSD for the most benefit. (note putting on a SSD on USB or Firewire housing will also kill you speed as now you are limited by Firewire and USB issues. (Who'd thunk it) However you should be OK with eSATA. (I have not tested an External SSD via eSATA).

Interesting! So it seems that with SSD there would no longer be a need for an external as long as (of course) there is enough space for all the files. And it seems one could even argue performance might be better without using an external. That's good news to me. Sure they're expensive, but no need for external HD & avoidance of the vibration issues are the 2 things that make it worthwhile to pay the extra for SSD, I think.

Can anyone recommend 128GB SSD drive for a macbook pro in the UK? Can't find OWC drives for sale here.
