Because after the 1.1 and then (most importantly) the 1.5 updates, it added just about everything that people wanted to make it near perfect. There will always be more requests, but over most of the past year, it was one of those things that made you think "it's cool, but if it only did this..." And then that feature probably showed up in one of the updates. I think that's why you're seeing people more happy about it now then ever before.swishniak wrote:this thing has been out for over a year now, why is it all of the sudden the hot new shit?

Re: I caved, just bought Maschine.
I would bet any money it's what NI are working on next. A synth version of Maschine. Like a virus that's fully contained in software. Maschine has been too successful, they know what people want, and they make great synths, so it's only natural that it's where they are heading. Kore started it, but is more for performance than sound design.Tarekith wrote: Now if someone would just make something similar that's geared toward synths.
Do you have the Remote SL? Automap templates were very limited until the most recent update because the automatable parameters were limited to 128. This wouldn't cover enough controls. Since I bugged them about it a few weeks ago, they increased that limit to 256 at 1.3.2. So now I can make an automap template for Omnisphere for the Part 1 of the 8 (I usually use separate instances rather than multiple parts of one instance). It won't be perfect since I won't be able to assign mod sources and destinations, but most of it will be hardware controlled. It will be a bit of a task, since the controls have to be renamed, but I think it'll be alright once it's done. I'll be sure to share.Tarekith wrote: Or a hardware controller for Omnisphere.

I'd love to see a Kore3 type controller built into a 37-key keyboard, that would be sweet.
Had a RemoteSL, sold it for the Akai MPK25 though. And I was really referring to a dedicated, high quality controller for Omni. Generic controllers have come a long way, but it's not even close to the same thing. The encoders on the SL feel like poo too, sorry.

Re: I caved, just bought Maschine.
I'm curious about what Kore 3 will bring. Might be keyboard style combo. But I really do think they will do a unique synth like Maschine where the software can be 100% controlled from the hardware, and I doubt that would be able to host other synths.Tarekith wrote:I'd love to see a Kore3 type controller built into a 37-key keyboard, that would be sweet.
Ya, you're right, a dedicated controller is far superior, especially for designing your own sounds. I find that good detailed SL templates can be great for tweaking presets though, and Omni's cool because you can assigned both preset scrolling and sample source scrolling to the hardware, then tweak some modulations, filters, fm etc. and come up with something new and cool.Tarekith wrote: Had a RemoteSL, sold it for the Akai MPK25 though. And ya, the mkI encoders felt like crap, but the MKII encoders feel good (at the expense of a screen though, the fuckers).

because they got the essentials so right that it want be forever not hot or ever out of date, in 10 years + it will remain as hot as now, because they got the damn core essentials so utter right like no one else.swishniak wrote:this thing has been out for over a year now, why is it all of the sudden the hot new shit?
anything coming as an update is just really an add on... nothing to be done better on the core of the product.
that's simply why.

maschine : drums
i associate:
maschine : music
seriously why do people think of it as a sort of drum module / mpc replacement?
i think the least i do is making drum patterns with it.
you guys need to come out of the box, that is your head, really.

Because it has 16 drum pads laid out like the MPC, and most people have said that while it has instruments, it's the included drum samples that shine.

but that is exactly thinking in the box... (only because it looks like it, i used to use an MPC 2000XL for years, for everything long before i used logic on a computer, but maschine is a whole different ballgame, i can compare)Tarekith wrote:Because it has 16 drum pads laid out like the MPC, and most people have said that while it has instruments, it's the included drum samples that shine.
it's sample based, so you can feed it with whatever... it has key / note scales... so you can 'play' etc., etc.,
i think people miss out a lot on it... thinking this way... and not exploring how powerful it is as a general controller on top of it.
in my personal case, it actually turned me the first time in 20 years plus into having fun and feeling creative with samples and sounds (that are not generated by synths), not just drums and beats.

Re: I caved, just bought Maschine.
i think most people wouldn't use it as their main sequencer. as Tarekith said, it's the drum samples that shine. it just makes the most sense as a drum pattern editor. and now with this latest update, they've made it even more easy to bounce down individual patterns rather than sequencing the entire song within maschine which, i don't know about you guys, but it makes more sense to me to sequence in Live! it's like a sort of FL studio type of program. you can use it for more than just the basic step sequencing of drums or other sounds but that's what it does best and the entire reason to buy it in the first place!
if you were to use it in a live performance, then learn it stand alont and delve deep... but get it for the great drum kits and the basic drum programming it excels at.

still i don't get that 'attitude'McQ714 wrote:i think most people wouldn't use it as their main sequencer. as Tarekith said, it's the drum samples that shine. it just makes the most sense as a drum pattern editor. and now with this latest update, they've made it even more easy to bounce down individual patterns rather than sequencing the entire song within maschine which, i don't know about you guys, but it makes more sense to me to sequence in Live! it's like a sort of FL studio type of program. you can use it for more than just the basic step sequencing of drums or other sounds but that's what it does best and the entire reason to buy it in the first place!
i for once, even the onboard samples are great and yes have very strong drum sounds... have about 45.000 samples in my 'private' library
and to get your hands on samples other then drums for free, hundreds of thousands of them (legally) is not a big deal for anyone.
secondly the whole quantising / swing handling in maschine and the extreme sensitivity of the pads (i actually after playing around with the vast possibility of settings, regarding the pad behaviour / sensitivity, think they are even better then the pad control pads!), makes it in my eyes more then perfect for exactly none drum patterns / sequences... melodies, basses, etc.
but OK< whatever, i enjoy doing way more with it then just drum patterns.
and i do not talk about replacing Live, or any other sequencer with maschine...
just that i think it is great and equally good for creating whatever part of a song, e.g. drums, pads, melodies, chords, basses, etc. etc.
p.s. i mean pads alone, recording this amazing velocity behaviour of the pads by creating 'swells' with just pressing the finger more or less, it is way better then with anything else i ever tried it with, any keyboard or whatever else... the pad behaviour is bar none incredible... and that with note repeat... and and and and.... woaw...

Re: I caved, just bought Maschine.
Well I think there are good reasons to think of it as mainly a drum player or general sample trigger device (fx and what not). Does it host synths? No. I work a lot with VST synths and that has nothing to do with Maschine. Does it load complex multi-sampled instruments? Sort of. But not the big pianos, stringed instruments and libraries we already own and love. Can it load VST effects for instruments? No. It's self-contained, other than having multiple outs.SubFunk wrote:

This is why it's not suitable to use as a replacement for melodic instruments which many of us like to use and already have a good collection of. It fits the part perfectly as a sample-triggering/sample-cutting-slicing/drum kit playing/sequencing sample thing. If that's the focus of the music you make, then sure it can be your overall music device, but it's pretty obvious why it fits a particular niche for many others.
And I don't agree either that it's the drum samples that shine. They're decent, sure. But it's the workflow of the device that shines.

nope, neither i work for ableton, and i will give them as much shit as i give ableton if they piss me off or do something i am not 100% happy with...Tarekith wrote:You do work for NI don't you?
be a 100% sure of that, you can't buy me, i am just very emotional, if i like / love something i express it with all my heart and soul and positive emotion, but you don't want to know me if i hate something or if you piss me off, i slice your balls in thin layers and rip your head off alive!!!
no joke.
