ableton live on linux

I tried running Ableton Live through WINE but no luck. I found that it installed ok but the screen dimensions screw something up and there was also problems redrawing pop-up windows. I did get something going but it also couldnt do audio...yeeesh...

So I got a copy of Win4Lin (5.1.20) by www.netraverse.com and installed it under Linux (Gentoo) with the patched kernel (it installs this itself). Then completed the install by rebooting into the new kernel, with a (non-bootable) win98 CD in the drive, and downloaded a win98.img (boot floopy image) to my harddisk. I then ran the commands 'loadwindowsCD' (as root) and 'installwindows' (as a user)...and the Win98 install screen popped up and i entered the Key (google) and all went well.

When all was finished I then ran Win98 by typing the command 'win' (not as root but as a user) and Win98 pooped up and chugged away. I then used this to install Ableton Live. It worked but without audio at first and was extremely slow. But then I killed win98, and also killed my audio server (jack), restarted with 'win', started Ableton through win98, and tweaked the audio preferences in Ableton Live...and it works like a dream - fast and good audio....Ableton Live under Linux...horrray

(if you start Ableton and a message comes up saying it cant draw the screen then open the 'Display' control panel in win98, change the resolution settings and _dont_ resize the win98 window, and then restart ableton....should work)
