i'd like to see a return to the days of v.1 & 2 when it comes to stability. i never had those versions crash on me, not ever. v.3 crashed every now and then, but version 4 seems to randomly crash several times a week now. i haven't een able to find any pattern to it either, which is maddening.

weird - 4 has been as stable as ever for me. the cpu usage with vsti is a tad high, but i've been just making loops of intensive stuff.

i'm pretty sure it has never crashed for me, on mac or pc.

I think..........

They're fixing midi issues, and allowing for midi to pass through plug ins, which will allow for............

The ARP 8)

haven't burned the place down quite yet. but i actually don't have any cats, so that helps. the woman and 3 dogs take up plenty of room. and i'm pretty sure at least one of the dogs (pitt/dalmatian) would kill any feline on sight.

:)

hmmmm... just done a 22 gig tour with Live 4.02 running on two powerbooks under OS9.2.2. Each machine had 100+ tracks and 1Gb of clips, craploads of midi control and live breakbeat thrashing. Not a single hang/glitch/dropout at all. ever. I'm now in the process of declaring Live the most solid part of the rig 8O

So... can you blame 4.04(OSX version)? blame 4.04(period)? blame OSX audio or midi or generally??? Third-party hardware/drivers? What a bastard!

Dirty - with so many variables in your rig, it must be impossible for you to swap just one component out at a time - the real slow laborious way - and then do exactly the same test. You have my major sympathies - must be soooo frustrating

The only thing I can think of is have you tried running a "pure Ableton" setup i.e. no AUs or VSTs or soft instruments? Any difference?

gee pitch, thanks for the kind advice. i'd never actually thought of attempting to find the cause of my crashes. i'm sure that since your rig is so stable, mine should be too...even though you're on different hardware...running a different os....and a different version of live.

asshole.

that's just the thing though, my rig is so small that swapping out the cause should be fairly easy, but it's not proving to be so as it seems to crash at random. i can only conclude that it's either live or osx as they are the two things that i can't swap out. either way, all i can do is wait and see if i can find a pattern. i say it's not as stable as it was back in the day because it never crashed, regardless of third party plugs, hardware or anything else.
