not sure if it its true, but a friendd of mine told me that virus are executable files, osx doesn't recognize executable files, .dmg or .pkg are image files so theres no way for the virus to execute and go thru the system like in windows

Macs don't get viruses because the magic rainbow unicorn that lives inside each one keeps a tight watch over the proceedings.
Jebus, don't you fuckwits know anything? How many fucking times do we have to explain the vital role of the magic rainbow unicorns?

In all seriousness, every time one of these Macs don't get viruses threads come up, without fail, we are informed of the theoretical possibility of Macs potential to get viruses. A more pertinent question would be, how many Mac users here have actually ever GOT a virus? Like most (I suspect) I have never had any virus problems since switching to Mac 5 years ago...so yes, it may well be theoretically possible, but it appears to be highly unlikely...even without any anti-virus software.

So to sum this up in simple terms,if you want to visit porn sites get a mac, for everything else a PC is far superior.

well said, i mean i often heard or read about that 'it is possible' but NEVER ever about that someone with a mac actually had one.
and technically speaking i heard and read this as well:

i have to believe whatever, as i don't know IT stuff well... but fact is that i never had a virus since i own computers (which was always apple)

i had that startup virus for ppc's back in the day, where your powermac would just turn on at random. really annoying as i'd hear the startup chime wake me up at 3 in the morning. but, like the warts on my fingers, it seems to have dies a natural death.

PCs don't get viruses either if you know what you're doing and how to operate a computer and stay away from surfing sites with dubious content (and stay away from Internet Exploder) and don't open e-mail from dodgy unknowns with attachments. Mac users, while not suffering the effects of viruses, can help spread viruses indirectly to PC users, which happens frequently on a workplace level.
Viruses are bad ... mmmkay. Stay away from the porn ... mmmkay.
