I was having problems with firewire (dropouts) with live as well but I fixed them by turning off the firewall for my 1394 port...no problems since!!!
By the way, the firewall was from running Windows XP SP2

Setup:
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Windows XP SP2
1 GB RAM
250 GB SATA HD

I got one of the first 410s when they became available. I don't remember having any problems with it under OS 9, once they had ironed out the bugginess from the release driver. I did have to return the first one due to loose connections on the rear line inputs. The input build quality is not great as the one's on my second unit have now become a bit iffy - they are plastic mounted after all. When I moved to OSX I didn't notice any problems at first although the latency, whilst workable for me, meant that it never felt as tight as my 828. Since Live 4 however I have noticed the occasional dropout but usually only after the unit has been playing continuosly for some time or with high processor loads. BTW I noticed on a PC/ Firewire thread somewhere here that some people were pointing the finger at a fault in the firewire pcmcia feed from the motherboard itself, so if your running an external drive from there because the 410 is on the main bus, the data throughput is compromised. All very confusing....but I haven't seen any threads about problems with the RME stuff so I guess if you got the cash it would seem the way to go......

I too have been having regular dropouts (about every 20 mintues) using my motu 828 with live 4 and mac osX.3.7. I used Live version 1 through 3 for years with no problems on my old iMac G3-400 running os9 with the exact same motu 828. Now on my "faster & Better" iBook G4-933 and osX I get these dropouts when using the 828... it wouldn't be so bad if it didn't throw the timing off, but it messes up the computer to computer dj style mixes I do live with my partner...(we mix as if the two computers were the two turntables a dj uses - no bpm sync, just lining it up by ear). Now we are trying to record our new live album and I never know when Live will let me down. This is a serious problem which jepardizes my whole way of working...none of the other programs on my mac have ever done this so I know the blame lays with Live 4...I have the lastest motu drivers and osx system updates so hopefully this new Live update will help....I hope so because this is a stupid issue to make my "pro" soundcard unreliable...In every other way Live is da bomb...

sorry to hear your having these probz as well......i have ditched my firewire audiophile today and bought an RME Multiface with Card....im not compromising my liveshows for the sake of money.....m-audio products are not 100% compatable with mac osx, so no matter what the m-audio site tells you, they are full of s***. The drivers for the soundcards for instance are using tons of cpu!!..Mutu are in a similar poosition...but not quite as bad....some have problems some dont....what chance have you got before you even start your programs up?? Live is pretty cpu intensive, but you may find that the reason your are noticing it now is because live is pushing your computer harder than the other programs...and that if you could drive your other apps as hard as ableton, you would find the problems..hopefully not though....

We have seen some reports on here regarding problems with our new FireWire driver ver 1.4.1 on Mac OSX...just wanted to clarify that this driver was only tested with Mac OS10.3.6, so if you are using 10.3.7 (the latest version) you may have problems.

10.3.7 was released by Apple just at the very end of our driver testing cycle and seems to have changed some things significantly from 10.3.6, so we are now re-testing 10.3.7.

In the meantime, for all of you using M-Audio FireWire devices in OS10.3.7, you are recommended to use the 1.2.4 driver, the previous version, which can still be accessed via our driver download dialog.

yip...multiface and card are installed...audiophile is for sale as we speak....

i will never buy another m-audio product, they are woefull for customer service, they are unreliable with the build quality of the products they make, i.e, the cheap connectors etc, and worst of all, the drivers are updated once every millenium, and dont work with the systems they are made for...i.e driver 1.4.1 doesnt work with 10.3.6 properly....

Earlier in this topic a guy from m-audio tried to explain that the 10.3.7 update was released just after the new driver....DOH! why not wait and put it out so its compatable with the OS we all use...not a good enough service to be honest...

RME here we go.....you get what you pay for!!

i have had exactly the same issues with my 828mk2 and a 800mhz powerbook... once an hour or so i get a 1/2 second 'hole' in the audio output.

thought about buying an rme cardbus/multiface... and sell my motu...

so the future (concerning all kind of software in 20 years or sth like that) could develop and have its 'own life'? so we are one of the first victims with our portable computers and music production software (which is really getting more complex nowadays)

Send to the Ableton and they told me that they're working on it,
which I think they really are.

But what I'm affraid is,
this same firewire issue has been going on from version 2.(or 3. I forgot)
with same problems.
Just look it up in the forum and you will be amazed how old the problem is.
Kinda felt sorry for , hmm , everyone including the companies.
No one know what's going on.
Felt little affaid for the computrized future.
It can get really messy.

I'm leaving my Firewire for my HDD for the timebeing.
