i agree.
that said and all his excellent original work aside, can you think of an artist in techno who has done as much exceptional remix work?
i still play Pet2000 if the candy raver populace is high enough at a party and i just feel like scaring them!

hmm. as far as quantity
and quality, it is a tough question. maybe rob hood or mark broom. i'd say sims but he's just done 400 of the same remix. or possibly Takaaki Itoh... of course, all his are unauthorized and uncredited.

BUT, Laptops offer so much flexibility

So if you can't beat em, join em.
Well you CAN beat em but its so much easier to use a laptop and you get way more sonic flexibility/variety in a much smaller package. So why not?
don't get me wrong i'm playing sets on my laptop with ableton and 2 controlers and out board effects and loving it..
...but its really hard to get me off of the 1200's
i think the only big problem with records is that they are made out of oil

hmmmm...
a couple of discusons going on now made me think of this old thread, as this transistion (and it effects on dj culture) has always been in the back of my mind
BUT
i'm not really doing my job beta testing live 5 properly as i'm having way to much fun mixing with it
