hip hop and rap are not the same thing. you should know that by now, but you're not into either.
nothing personal, you kick ass in knowledge of the stuff you do listen to.
They diverged, rap and hip hop have a common ancestry, no doubt about that. You're making a snap judgment without putting too much thought into it. You could ask me if I was interested in hip hop and rap, but you instead assumed I wasn't.
I was very into rap/hip hop as a kid when it started in the 80's, not to play it per say, but I listened to a good amount, Run DMC, Egyptian Lover, Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, Afrika Bambaataa, Whodini. Hell, I heard Cookie Puss the day it came out, had a friend who though the Beastie Boys punk stuff was fun, so he got all excited when that single dropped. Obscure stuff like Gary S. Clail, Tackhead, Mantronix, and groups I can't remember the name of

. Later on Wu tang Clan and the first NWA, The Doc, Hoes with Attitude etc.
Like I said, I lost interest after every producer tried to remake The Chronic, which is still going on.
The Doc is another great rapper, too bad a car crash crushed his vocal chords.
Loved his delivery.

The best rapper is a man, bearded, .. a man who fought aliens and stabbed a real gladiator in the chest. I once heard he lived in a village with giant hedgehogs, no television and a lot of old stuff and only one pretty girl and she was blind !
On a serious note, in my opinion Doggystyle is still one of the best albums ever made. Lodi Dodi is a fine song but actually the original was from Slick Rick.

I thought rap came from african tribal music as rhythmic chanting over tribal drum beats centuried ago?
Hiphop didnt start until the 70s as rap over disco, and even then rap in modern music scene was probbaly kicked off by MCs n jamaica back in the 60s?
Now being a hip-hop hater I would just say hip hop stole it like it steals everything else

- Except I think hip hop started (as a named genre) as rap over disco in the 70s, and over time probably responsible for bastardising what rap was into some dood going 'yo' over some hijacked loop.
Anyway - only one rap track Ive ever really liked:

hip hop is more than rapping.. hip hop has various elements to include graffiti, breakdancing, DJing, and lastly rap music. some posts make it seem like hip hop is a musical genre, but technically it's a lifestyle and culture..

no hiphop came from america, just because you rhyme over percussion doesn't make it hiphop but.............we all digress................n.e.way..........yeah that faithless joint is dope.
I just wonder why so many people who can't rap talk so much shit about it, it's like we don't do that to superman and none of us can do any of the things I asked you about earlier in the post but we all love superman. I can rap, extremely well, as a matter of fact I'm a high ranking member of an ancient coven of MCs but I would never denegrate an artform especially one I'm negatively proficient at, that just wouldn't be credible. Example you usually don't find people who don't know guitar or synths denegrating those who do, not seriously anyway.

Not rhyming about material wealth, bitches, or how the police are all racist.
Most of the police are decent people who are trying to be helpful. Especially when they turn up in their van just in time to stop your head getting kicked in by some chavs. Got my taxes-worth of policing last November!
Saw an awful rapper in the Radio 1 introducing stage at Glastonbury. He was rhyming general dreary nonsense and about "Fuck the Po-Po". Some policemen passing by looked all hurt, mildly amused, and like "what have we done?", whilst everyone in the crowd was just happily stoned. Was really quite funny.

Your turn to read above closely
I said rap - not hip-hop and never implied that rapping is hip-hop - it aint (thankfully). IMHO hip-hop may have given commercialism to rap, but it also totally ruined it too with the baggage it brought along with it.
I posted the faithless thing - because it isnt hip hop - at least not my idea of it and it shows what can be done with that is good soul touching art without dragging all the hip-hop baggage along that gives anything it touches a bad rep.
BTW - if it wasnt for this thread making me go hunting for that track - wouldnt have found out they were on tour at the mo and bought tickets to go see them at brixton acedemy in april - cheers!
