I can't answer your poll McQ714 as I've always used other DAWs along with Live. I've done whole songs in Live alone, but mainly I write and remix/do the first draft of a song in Live, then switch to Digital Performer or in the past Logic for finalizing the songs and fleshing out details. I like Live, but I'm not a fan of mixing in Live, or of the lack of comping, multiple automation styles etc. Besides in the bigger picture DAWs are cheap, no harm in owning more than one. :) A lot of people own Live as a secondary DAW, but I wouldn't recommend getting another DAW if you're having trouble writing in Live. Mostly other DAWs might be better at final touches, not at using to write with.

THIS!!!

Ableton is just a live performance tool for me, still on V6.

Digital Performer is a complete production center that live will never be able to compete with.

but I do wish that DP would copy lives session view, it would work perfectly with the V-rack system for re creating lives work flow.

live os okay, has mighty tricks. it is also missing sone major things, but overall the experience is very positive. thing is, we live in a world of offers, choices, concurency, pricing difference. i see here a very good product that is loosing customers over stupid issues. i work for a global huge company that has same issues - every year loosing customers cause of engineering lack, many tiny small s**t things, lousy support... thing is, to loose your clients, you do not need to do nothing. it all comes by itself. to keep them and gain more, serious work is required.

Already long since switched to Maschine as the production tool with a better session view experience and Logic for a better linear arrangement tool. I'd like to see Live go back to its live performance-oriented roots.

who hasent mooved to another platform yet probably never will or not before something really new apears on the market..
Because it cant really get worse from now..last year was a pure horror and stress a disaster..that cant be repeated somehow.... And all the fileformat changes and expiring betas havent really helped..

needed ableton some time to realize that they have to change theier routine and finaly delivered time unlimeted betas..what helped a lot ... wasnt really like that that any new version was an improovement..

Will stay with live for most purpose, but will get X1 since I planned to get one as an additional tool.

This is about where I sit. For me there wont be a day I gett frustrated with missing modern features, or flakiness and suddenly think fukit and switching as at the end of the day, day in day out working with music and with other people means working fast and not dithering about with tools you not quite familiar enough with.

What really happens is I start using other applications instead of live to do specific tasks, but keep the main creative work in live, even if the eventual sound egineering jobs get done in cubase or perhpas logic in the future.

As more issues with live's reliability and feature start becoming headaches for the specific project im doing, then I might get the the point where Im actually spending more time in other tools than I am in Live. If it turns out Im spendig more time in say logic than Live, well then Ive allready jumped ship without ever consciously deciding to so - the path of least resistance simply lay elsewhere and Live got left behind by evolution (just as with Reason years ago). What can I say - survival of the fittest when it comes to tools and fortunately being in a position to choose what I use for a given task, so Im not just stuck with Live.

This summer Im supposed to be doing some gigs at festivals in Spain, TBH - its looking like Tracktor (Pro or V2 - not sure yet) + Maschine will win over Live unless some miracle happens. One thign for certain - ive never trusted Live live without an ipod plugged in as well running a pre-mixed set just in case, but have no such worries with traktor (though still prefer an ipod plugged then too).

So here - while ableton continue to aimlessly mess around with random projects and respond to nearly every major feature/functional area fix request with 'its going to take a very very long time, not for Live 7/8/9 (increment every next version) etc' or similar, then Live is slowly going extinct or at least in danger of becomming one of those esoteric tools I dust off now and then for a specific task (like Reason/Record are for me now). And worst of all - its trully in danger of no longer being the Live tool of choice - kind of seems like they blew their original purpose.

Shame - the workflow is very good especially for creation and the creative engineering phase etc - mostly, but there are so many stupid incomplete details that could so easily be fixed with a litle bit of attension to detail of the kind that might happen if someone there actually used it day in day out rather than randomly played or whatever their testing is.

I feel like they need some hands on focussed functional and quality management - just a feeling based upon years in the IT industry keeping a close eye on competitors from the outside and projects from the inside etc.
Nothing to see here - move along!

I'm increasingly working in Logic Essential. Live's monumental flakiness combined with an increasing sense of frustration at both the time to fix, the lack of communication and the ever-increasing disparity between Ableton charging for *everything* and Logic's free synths/sampler/loops/amps kinda kills any sense of loyalty to Live.
