personally ...I think they shouldn't rush L9...
and I applaud Ableton for taking their time to do it properly this time ..

Live is very much alive ...and has heaps of dedicated users..

I don't know of any 'real' alternative out there ..

I doubt I will ever learn how to write in Max. I just use what other people create.

It is just a tool for musicians/producers/tweakers to use. Just like the rest of Live's instruments & FX.
My point is majority of users don't expect buggy Live 8 (or 9) with M4L integration over stable pure Live 8/9. Being different from other daw the stability always came first for Live , the other functions are always second even if it interferes the implimentation of functions.
wrong... L7 was already buggy (at a smaller scale..) that was long time before m4l..

also...
why differentiate between m4l and any other 'feature'...?

what can I say if you're missing new inspiring features get m4l...
(even if you don't "patch"...the extra $$ is worth it for the supplied m4l devices alone..
the option to 'edit' devices internals is Lives' biggest and most important feature to date imho.. )

even with a 2 year pause in major versions... Live is still 10 steps ahead of the flock!
Live+m4l are still the bleeding edge of music production !

if L9 introduces only better resource handling and 'stability' I'd still be thrilled

Bugfixes

* Live would freeze and crash on OS X Lion when sending MIDI data to any MIDI port.

...
...

* Eleven additional crashes were also fixed.

I am not - I am totally ok with Live 8, don't need a No. 9 atm. ;)

Why don't you ask Deadmau5 if Live is dead?

Actually look at this interview w/ the mau5 where he talks about live being dead!

They'll be the first ones to refuse to upgrade because they don't like the price.

Silliest thread in a long time.

Do you measure software being dead by the major revision frequency? How about a piece of software with regular bug fixes and compatibility fixes (like the recent Lion compatible version) as well as on-going add-ons and updates to extensions like Max for Live? Live 9 is obviously being worked on, but the current version and it's add-ons are being tweaked to be as useful as possible in the meantime. I don't think it gets an more "alive" than that.

indeed. at work we'd call something like this "a living document." for anyone playing corporate bingo, you may cross out that box now. thank you for thinking outside the box as we develop the ecosystem of whine threads in a forward thinking action item to establish new markets in a cross functional team building effort. and remember, Friday is Hawaiian shirt day, so, if you want to, you can wear a Hawaiian shirt. and jeans.

that's like saying Razor is going to release a new scooter every 3 months therefore BMW should come out with a new model every 3 months.

web development and trends are a fast moving market, that tech industry moves very quickly, totally different market than a DAW and/or live musical performance tool.

apples and watermelon patches.

Firefox just crashed on me, I want my money back! oh wait... 8O
