Is this correct? Recording COPIES the MIDI data to a track?

Do I understand that you want to edit one of the clips in session view and have the changes made there reflected in the previously recorded arrangement?

Since sooo many different people use Live in sooo many different ways would you mind if I asked why this behaviour is desireable in your case?

An in-depth description of your working process may lead us to other techniques that can accomplish similar results.

Because thats how I want things to work. Basically, having fiddled with synths and drum machines for many years, I am pattern based.

That means I often changes things in the patterns even after I have made an arrangement, and naturally, I then want to change this in all the places where I used the pattern I changed.

i guess the only way, at the moment, is to assign midi notes to the clips and record the midi events in the arranger, rather than the actual clips. this way, if you change something in a clip, it still gets played.

it needs some experimentation i guess, because of the way Live records in arrangement. this technique combined with overdub could work as far as midi is concerned. with audio clips, i think you need to delete the track in the arranger first.

i could be way off as i don't have Live here at the moment.

anyway, ghost copies, or whatever they might be called in other apps, is what you want, and it is not in Live yet. so join one of the threads in the Feature Wishlist forum.

Ah, I understand more clearly now. Truly the "ghost clip" behaviour is what you desire...

Well, being that Live's MIDI capability is still very young, we may well see this feature added in the near future.

Sorry that I could not be more helpful, I was thinking that perhaps you were trying to acheive a task that might have been better suited to rethinking your use of the session view, but alas this is not the case. Bummer.
