true...

now i think of it: he does move the occasional thread to a different forum, but that's very rare. only a few threads got closed, because it was getting over the top (see the above banned ones). a week later we had our Off Topic forum.

but look at the forum lay-out of www.planetZ.com/forums/ (you have to be jalous of the music section  )
this place would be so much better, and shouldn't be too hard to do. that site is a one man hobby, a guy with a very busy life. he used to pay for hosting the site himself at first. now a new server is payed by voluntary donations. better, faster, more music, dirt cheap.

ah well. there always seem to be a lot of difference between companies' boards and the privately run. in the latter, you feel rather like coming to someones house as a guest, respecting his houserules... or maybe over there we're nothing but a bunch of corny geeks.

mmm. lost concentration a bit.

I see a lot of whinging recently from people about not getting questions answered to their satisfaction. Like we get paid for it ! :)

While I am a polite, understanding and pleasant guy at least 2% of the time... some people just try my patience!

Live is based on a few key principles, and sometimes when the questioner doesn't even grasp a real basic key principle - it becomes obvious there is too much background info to tell, in fact about a manuals worth!

it reads like this to me... transposed to another subject:

Q: how do I re-paint my car succesfully?

A: make sure you sand down and prime before painting, there is a section on this in the manual , have you read it

Q: what is paint ?

A: (inwardly: aaaaaaaaaaaargh! ) Erm, I would read the manual if I was you

Q: man you is a dirispectubl me , I noly asked uoi a smiple qestion about my new remix which is in the top ten next week then you are be my sorry .!!!!!

Ah, I'm getting it: He wants the car to be repainted because he has not payed for it.
In fact, it's your car!
He wants you to repaint your car so that you will not notice he has stolen it!
Great script for a horror story 8)

If you want to say RTFM you have to either help the person or point them in the right direction after saying it.

It says so in the manual.

if you've read through the thing many many times in search of a solution,
then to you the reader it no longer is the manual. it then becomes the "fucking manual". and due to all the extra very usefull information you've just learnd about other aspects of the program by hunting down other solutions in the manual, you have really increased your knowlege many more times then just copeing a simple solution from someone

soo...
....RTFM is actually a helpful comment

How can anybody be offended by RTFM?
Say it loudly and proudly.

It was a wav. But converting it wont make it any worse. It was an 8 bit recording from the radio to begin with :)

I gotta agree, as someone who often helps out with what I consider "basic" questions, whenever I come across a real RTFM question. I naturally assume:

A the person has a krak

B they are *really* young

or both...

you can kinda tell....

Dividing people into "them" (category A, B, C - retarded -, D - lazy, E - disabled with reading problems) and "us" (P - professional, T - talented and ambitious, O - old timer that knows everything, X - a bastard but we are used to his manners and he has some good yokes) - does that help? Or maybe thats just how we are, judging, drawing lines.

I almost never like the phrase "you can tell by" - his hair, her way of walking, his color, her name. It suddenly turns out to cries for cleaning up, getting rid of "them".

The slave perspective was very interesting, I am still a little shaken by that view. And it's also dangerous. When the good, strong people feel they are slaves to the less good, mayby evil or just not so strong or lazy or in some way disabled...

OK, as you see I am not sure of anything.
But these discussions, off topic for a forum for a music production tool, tells me that there is a living and evolving culture here - and that we shall be proud of. Not in the sense that we good, knowing people shall at all means protect the one and only correct culture by nuclear force but that it is discussed and still open.

Ummmmm... evil and goodness are within us.

We all have the capacity to be Ghandi or Hitler

We are all just a subset of the human race... thats how wide the dynamic range goes.

So its all down to choice, really. Every "holy" book, the Bible, the Koran , Torah, has the equivalent phrase of: "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

Are you implying that we could settle this matter by having an equivalent phrase put into the Live manual?

Conny is right. There is something that draws us to this forum and makes us care.
Think of how much you visit this forum. And compare it to what you think about ancient greek philosophers and how much time they spent on their forums.
I'm not saying this forum can be compared to the way idea's where made in the old days, but it has the potential though.
