I'm new to Live. I've been on ProTools for over a decade...but now, they want $1500 for me to upgrade from PT8 to PT10. That's steep enough to make a guy a little bothered. Knowha'msayin?

My buddy and I have been doing a remix in Live, and I gotta say, our results are impressive to me, so today I took the plunge and ordered up the Live 8 Suite.

I guess what's funny to me is that the grass is always greener somewhere else, right? Coming from ProTools, am I gonna be really disappointed in Live? I don't think so. ProTools chokes with just a few Virtual Instruments in play. Live seems to be working well so far.

I'll report back in a few weeks. In the meanwhile, if you're jumping ship off of Live, good luck.

And it pisses me off, when cats think they're so pro coz they use Pro Tools and think every other DAW is nonsense, but when you listen to their beats, it sounds mediocre. Quality and sound-wise. I mean, they're all the same, you can make quality beats with all DAW right now. These days, it's all about preferences now.

Me, I'm done with Pro Tools when it comes to DAW of choice. I wouldn't even bother using it if the software is given for me for free. UNLESS, if they would give me the console to go with it. :)

Mostly people are talking about how funny it is that you have these expectations on what a developer should do. Honestly if you were here since v1 then you would have known how slow the company develop, and if you're looking at Live's strong point, live performance, then you would be happy they don't rush things.

Personally I've always used Live in conjunction with an old school DAW Logic and now Digital Performer. The combination gives me the best of both worlds. I rarely ReWire, just found it as easy to bounce tracks back and forth than to try and negotiate rewire. Seriously, it's like you're looking for issues, I did the same thing years ago. It's an eye opening observation to realize that had I lived with the limitations of Digital Performer 2.7 and Reason, I would have had a more cohesive catalog of songs. :|

We are so lucky and so jaded. When I was 13 I wanted a music studio, the budget for something comparable to now would have been around $50,000, which would be probably about $150,000 today. 8O

This. Except I used to use Logic and now use Studio One for my mixing. The updates for S1 have been coming quickly; 2.02 just released which addressed many bugs posted by users this past week. Presonus have really picked up the pace compared to V1 of their software.

Hahaha I don't know that everybody thinks its funny that I want abelton to up date it's software to take advantage off memeroy issues. I to have used tunes of switch back and forth from live to things to get the best of both words but I don't like doing that. Live really made my work flow flow. I think it's funny how you think I'm looking for issues. Do a search and you'll see that many people want the things I am talking about. I'm not stupid I now that 64bit does not make better music it just makes it faster and you don't have to use tricks to get around limitations. We are coming on to a age were we don't need to have work arounds to get shit done because CPU power is so high. Work arounds in the analogue world are creative a lot of times. I don't find for myself that holds as true with dig. I'm 43 years old and have been recording in bands since 15, I know about what we could and couldn't do and budget stuff. I have massive gear and it still all combined doesn't even touch the budgets I had for recording in very large studio's in the northwestern US in the 90's were every huge record that came out got recorded. That was awesome but good god the money spent on that shit today would go so far. So I feel lucky to be living in a time when you can have a couple of thousand bucks of stuff and have all that plus in your home. People come off as deference like I'm trashing abelton when I have said how much I love it. I think there is something to being their loyal customer since 1. This bs about me trying to tell a company how to run there biz is funny. With out us users there wold be know abelton so I think they should Cruz these forums from time to time and see that people really want features like 64bit. When people ask a quistion like "what would 64bit do for me?" and people reply it'll make better music it sound pompous to me. So I guise I'm just replying to how you say everyone thinks its funny? I don't even care if that is or isn't true but I don't agree that I'm on a Island with this.

I really don't understand why people are getting so defensive. The OP has clearly stated he still likes Live! Some people will be able to use Live for all of their needs. Others need something else, but like some of Live's functionality. I personally don't use the arrange view in Live because I have used Logic for years and I personally think it is better. I also much prefer Logic's plugins. And no-one can tell me that I am wrong because I understand both programs and prefer one over the other - it is my opinion. I use Live for quickly getting ideas down, it's integration with Max/MSP (the single most important thing in Live for me) and well...playing live because in my opinion it is better than Logic at all of these things. That is why I bought it. If Studio One (or any other program) does things I need to do better than what I have, I would weigh up the pros and cons (price being a major one) and consider buying it too. We all do things differently and there is not one perfect DAW that will suit everyone - not Live (even if it was 64 bit), not Logic, not Studio One etc... Each person chooses the software that is best suited to meet their needs and if that is one single program, you are extremely lucky.

ps - the two people calling each other noobs should get a room

I never understood why people feel they have to choose one DAW or another. They all do different things better, use what works for a particular need and have a few on hand if that's what's needed. No one says you have to be exclusive to just one, you're not getting married to it :)

I have to say that S1 has some pretty sweet features. You can apply effects to individual regions rather than entire tracks. You can also freeze a track and continue to edit it! It moves the midi and the audio around at the same time. You can render a single region to audio and later restore it to its original with effects. Not bad.
