I was only joking btw. I'm really hoping that Live 9 will be 64 bit. I'm thinking it will be.remute99 wrote:I can only assume most of dickish answers are from people who aren't heavy softsynth users. For everyone else , 64 bit is the answer to years of "Out of memory" errors when they have the audacity to use too many VSTi. Try using 8 Omnispheres plus a fully loaded Kontakt and multiple instances of Nexus and Amplitube.hendrikstudio wrote:if you ever get a window in live like "out of memory".. and live crashed.. & you have a 64bit window or mac system and mor than 3,5 gb ram you don't get this window again.. hopefully for a very long time.
and pretty well your instruments can use more calculating power.."ram" so they can use bigger informations like used in reverbs.
your ram range gets dramatically bigger and thats the most wanted i think.
It's a fucking joke that this is still out of reach when my computer has 10gb RAM and 8 cores.
What would be the main advantage(s) for 64 bit?

so not only can you check your email and fistpump, now you can check your twitter and fistpump as well!anybody human wrote:64 bit allows the user to fully integrate the current Live Set with: Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Skype, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, Spotify, Myspace, Pandora, Foursquare, Flickr, Loopt, Linkedin, StumbleUpon, Groupon, couchsurfing.org, and the Ikea Store Locator.
64 bit Social Networking is a break through in DAW technology. Additional features include: send and receive status updates, push notifications, pokes, likes, tweets, text messages, emails, phone calls, carrier pigeons, smoke signals, and distress calls. Upload Song and Share Live Set will be added at some point in the future. Unprecedented in the digital audio realm, 64 bit Social Networking's dynamic level of integration makes it possible to let the world know, instantly, if the user is a) still agonizing over that kick drum, or b) procrastinating on the Ableton Forum.

That's it!!! Ableton you lollygagging lazy mofos!! I NEEEEEEEED all of this or I'm going to switch to RandomDAW01! because RandomDAW01 has had this for like 6 months... so it's blatantly obvious that if you don't tell us that you will have it soon you are falling behind and I have to have a DAW that is respected when I talk about it in front of people.

Re: What would be the main advantage(s) for 64 bit?
As long as there's enough processing power left for Live to make me a cup of tea or order a pizza while I'm knee-deep in synth tweaking with 150 tracks playing.
Seriously though - I wouldn't mind 64 bit just for the reason that I bought a swanky 64-bit processor for my PC and still haven't really made any use of these extra 32 bits. Still on 32 bit Windows and everything... I doubt it would make much practical difference to anything I do but it would be nice to think I'm actually using or at least capable of using that extra power.
