I know this is weird but I found the advent of the YouTube commenter really liberating - before it arrived I must have been subliminally insecure about public perception.
I didn't think I was , but I must have been ... because once the internet and youTube commenters arrived it was obvious that even a 100% proof amazingly talented genius would still get a large percentage of people saying "fake and gay". So, the pressure of any audience judgement is now gone. Some people are always going to say "that sucks", and by taking themselves out of the game like that - their judgement becomes valueless. They are simply not my audience, that's all it means.

If you like to rate musicians against other musicians then your punishment is to read the comments on Buddy Rich YouTube videos. You'll soon see what I mean. There is no "win" available if Buddy Rich gets called a lamer.

Damn right. Sure there are more able performers out there that this guy but so what. Listen to the crowd. He was performing to some people and they loved it.

He more than likely want to get better just like everyone else but at that gig, I bet he had the time of his life.

If you gig, you enjoy what you do and the people there are having a good time. Your a winner. End of.

You can learn a lot from observing other people observing other people(!). Especially about yourself.
