I really think we need to get back to putting a computer into some hardware instead of the other way around, it's ass backwards imho… i like what muse research was trying to do. instead of putting vst racks into reason they need to put some vst racks into some hardware, , sick of the old ball and chain.

I prefer to have the vst in the box though. But im waiting for a Virus Ti VST with a solid dedicated midi controller. In fact some vst or hardware synth companies like Access and Waldorf need to get together and agree on a standardised synth controller.

So why not buy some hardware? The Virus integrates quite well with Live. And Live has an External Instrument device which syncs up your external gear well.

My brief affair with Maschine inspired me to buy hardware because it is nice having that hands on approach. Between my synths and the APC's instant mapping, I'm kicking it!

Good fun but still terrible integration with a host DAW. I'm sorry but what good is being able to copy over midi files to trigger machine sounds if you can barely automate any parameters. You get 8 macros per GROUP. That's 0.5 controls per sound.

It's great for building up beats and patterns but when it comes to actually getting an arrangement in place, you're either bouncing out your parts or triggering full scenes, which is ok, but it could use much better integration.

It is interesting that the likes of timothyallan and JuanSOLO almost always chimes in on Maschine threads about how much they don't like it. In general, some Live fanboys here have always acted threatened by Maschine just because it does some of the same things that Live does better, like realtime recording of clip modulations and the ability to go mouse free. And then there are those who always feel the need to say a few negative things after saying they like it just so that others don't think they're fanboys. In other words, try it out yourself and see if it works for YOU.

Maschine was actually the first smart controller with Live session view clip matrix launcher capability with visual feedback in existence before the APC40 was even released:

I got no problem admitting I'm a huge Live fan boy. I've been one since 2004! I think Live's the bomb.

On the other hand, there are those who know the serious limitations of their drum maschines and feel the need to defend it whenever they can for fear of admitting that there is a problem ;)

And to be fair, when DJAdonis first got Maschine, he was singing it's praises all the time too. He's one of those that pushed me over the edge to get one.

Well, it's all aout opinions (which is what I asked for) so cons are good to hear as well as pros. and 'trying out' a bit of hardware, beyond a quick play in the shop, is kind of tricky, it takes weeks to form an opinion.

The price I could get it for is still cheaper than the NI sale price too, which is still nice...

hmm, i also thing about getting one, 250€ for a mikro , is not soo much, but the question for me is:

the work flow is like press shift, press button 1 to lock a function, then edit the drums with the pads etc ...

is this really working out in a live situation ? when i checked for live acts, only the "hip hop" demonstration videos came up, but i did not find a real live act using the maschine for electro house /techno performance. And when a vid shows up, it was used like a static beat providing sample player, and the DJ did most things with the mixer anyway =?

Don't worry about the heavy marketing toward the MPC/hiphop crowd. It's not a genre-specific tool:
