It's the same spectrum analyzer as the one in 8 more or less, but added to the EQ. You can see it in the promo videos. ProQ definitely looks way better, but I was referring to the sound, since graphically I don't need anything more.tintala wrote: Since I am no pro at mixing and EQ, that new eq in Live 9 better have a nice spectrum analyzer! The fabfilter one looks really intuitive for a noob at mixing... Damn I only have a couple days to decide!!!!

FWIW I didn't think that the new EQ and Comps in Live 9 sounded cleaner per se, but they definitely sounded better. The adaptive Q on the EQ alone is a huge change, makes EQ8 sound more natural and not neutral, if that makes sense.
The one area where Live still is a little behind the third party guys is the limiter. Live's limiter is fine for basic tasks and the like, but something like Pro-L has FAR more options for really tailoring the sound of the audio once you get into heavy limiting. I use it as part limiter and part transient shaper really. But in terms of EQ and Compression, yes the ones in Live 8 and 9 are just fine for most uses. I use them all the time instead of 3rd party options when I mix my own and even client work.

Agreed about the compressor in Live, great tool.
Never took to the native limiter for more than simple limiting on a single track though, and honestly even then if I have to limit something on an individual track it's because of crazy transients, which I've never had much luck of taming that with Live's native limiter. Would not trust it for mastering or on the master track. I haven't played with the new one in 9 enough to judge though.

the only plugin from them i would definitely say clicked with me most and has a justifiable price tag would be volcano, the way it functions does put it above other filters i've tried.

Re: Alot of plugin sales-fabfilter won't be competing
Just to add in. Owning the limiter and compressor I can say that for me anyway it's much easier to get higher levels of compression and limiting with them than the native pro quality compressors and limiters in Live or any DAW I've owned. I do pretty dense music sonically so it's actually fairly hard to get near modern volume levels out of it in the first place without noticeable blurring etc.
I will say that I find it kind of amusing that people are now doing the whole "fuck Fabfilter!" thing, because Live now has what looks to be equivalent plug ins built in. They aren't cheap, but they aren't super expensive either. Disclaimer though, I got them for waaay less than the upgrade to 9 Suite will cost me.

I bought Timeless, Volcano and Twin all together in a crazy offer on audioMIDI for $15. Then I could purchase next plugin with a discount on the fabfilter site. Right now I would get 40-50% off of the whole price for a new their plugin. For example, Pro-DS would cost me $94.50. It is no longer "too expensive".Machinesworking wrote:I will say that I find it kind of amusing that people are now doing the whole "fuck Fabfilter!" thing, because Live now has what looks to be equivalent plug ins built in.
