here is some more interesting reading.
"Which version does Ableton recommend?
We recommend to use the 32-bit version of Live for most use cases. The 64-bit version should be used when experiencing out of memory crashes on systems which have more than 4GB RAM installed."
This is surprising to me. I was under the impression that 8.4 was a better and more stable version and that 64 bit would better run large sets and VST's. So 8.4 is good only for those with memory crashes? 8.3.4 has been the worst version of Live for me since the days of 8.1. Here's to hoping 9 is better.

@ revoltcrew:

Yes you can delete the other versions. If better use the 32 or 64 - again: https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/64bit-myths-facts/

I'd keep the installer files for a while though…

Max 6.1 is the first version to have 64-bit support. Live 8/M4L does not officially support Max 6 as its editor, only Max 5. As it is highly unlikely that Cycling '74 will be making a 64-bit version of Max 5 (or in fact doing any development on Max 5 from here on out) I would not expect that there will be a 64-bit combo of Live 8/M4L.

Note that the conversion of Max to 64-bit has been no small effort and even this first release does not support all of Max's features when run in 64-bit (e.g. some Jitter functions). More about that here: http://cycling74.com/forums/topic.php?id=45448

So, basically, all it needs is ableton to give the ok for the 6.1 editor in live8?

Edit: shouldn't it "just work" when using the 64 bit max?

It might already work, or it might not. I haven't tried it yet. But to be clear, the only reason I am able to try it is because I own a Max 6 license, so I can choose it as the editor, whereas someone with only a M4L license can't.

i tried to use M4L earlier. it gave me a message that said something along the lines of "m4l is disabled because the 64 bit version is running. m4l devices can only be used in the 32 bit version of live."
also, for me, the M4L devices weren't in my browser. i actually had to do a search for them.

i hope they figure something out with the 64 bit version, we all paid for M4L right? we should be able to use it in the upgrade. (without buying 9)

You wouldn't need the 64 bit version unless you are running programs like Kontakt or EW Play.

I usually install the 32 and 64 bit version of most DAW software.

i didn't realize that, until it was too late. i've never had any RAM issues. but all my vsts are 64/32 bit. and i do have reason. so it's nice to have, in case i do run into an issue. but it sucks that MAX 4 LIVE doesn't work.

i didn't realize that 64 bit, wasn't that big a deal (if you are not having issues with RAM)

I do agree with you here...

If L9 gets it for free, we (who paid for it) should also be able to use it in L8 . I think its called taking ownership..

After I got the 8.4 update (auto update), the about Live dialog now says "Live 8" instead of "Live 8 Suite". Is that correct? My license is for suite. I don't seem to have lost any functionality. Just thought it was odd.

I think it's called 'being tricked by business'.

Suite is just more library content - core program is the same as Live 8 (but not intro versions).

I have just downloaded the 64 bit version of the Live update,And tried it with Reason 64bit via Rewire, works very well.

No more messing around converting Reason, to 32 bit, to make rewire work with Live 8,happy days :D

Here's to Tuesday, (I'm off work, that day).So I'll be playing all day (more or less,he,he)

itching to check out the clip automation, and other goodies

Why not Ableton?
seriously dont unstand that aswell. it would save bandwidth for ableton. because i have the content already installed.

that feature was so great "Program only"
