I agree entirely. For example, I think we should have 50/50 participation in the World Cup, because women, if encouraged, could be just as skilful and resilient as men on the pitch. Genetics be damned, if need be we can legislate our DNA to be more equal.

That's not the reason for my regret. I feel sad about it because I know she had some amazing music to make, which I would have liked to hear.

And this particular person really wanted to make music. At one time in her life she was training to be a professional musician. Now's she's smoking weed and selling tipi's, but she is still talking about 'one day' when she gets back to her music.

I don't think the reason is sexism. Don't get me wrong, the music industry in SA is as sexist as anything, and I used to find it richly amusing watching her get patronized by some dork who had 20% of her experience and talent, and then watching her gently put him in his place.

And I still wonder why and how this differentiation takes place. I do know that it's got absolutely nothing to do with talent. Maybe it's got more to do with the way in which making electronic music often appears to be a very left brain, logical kind of activity, which is the kind of thing boys (1) are encouraged to do (2) may indeed have more aptitude for. I say 'appears' to be, not is, because when you get down to it making music is all about the right brain.

Well sorry if I got a little ahead of you there. I simply assumed that in the context of a "why aren't there more women musicians?" thread, your implied "ought to" in regards to your ex would have had something to do with the subject matter, and not just serve as a nostalgic aside. You see, I got a little confused there, because you're all over the place. One minute, you're regretting that a person you know has stopped making music, then next your concerned with differentiation.

As a another completely unrelated aside, I'd like to mention that hip-hop only became so popular in the 80s and 90s because the US government provided fiscal incentives for black youths to "bust a groove". One of those youths then went on to become president. If we had done the same for the Wymenz Dubstep Underground, it would be Hilary and not Barry sitting the White House today.

Indeed, many people wouldn't expect the exact same behaviour from the exact same button every time. Computers never work like they are intended to anyway. I would like to see what Josef Parvizi's (male/scientist) actual studies show, rather than what Susan Fisk (female/sociologist) has to say about them.
