:x L.A. & Vegas... the last two places i would want to go on a trip to the U.S.

beats me is right... the flight to L.A. would be fairly quick, but you would be pressed for time if you're not meeting someone who knows their way around. it could get expensive fast too.

at least with Vegas it's same shit different coordinates, so you can get a taste of what that place is mostly about and jet out.

keep in mind though that you'll spend more time going through security and check in at either airport than the flight takes... assuming in and out in a day... in 24 hours, at best, you'll have about 12-14 hours in either city (if you don't plan on sleeping). that's assuming your flight in is bright and early and your flight out is as late as possible.

Lower Haight.... Robotspeak to geek out on equipment and maybe pick up something memorable... then pop next door for a beer at my favorite bar the NOC NOC... if it's still there.

Keep heading up Haight street, lots of great shopping, and you run into Ameoba records... so rad! This leaves you right on the edge of Golden Gate park.... walk into the park... maybe check out the new De Young Museum... pretty rad... or keep going through the park and it will spit you out right at the edge of the ocean and there are some cliff areas to explore there.

So Fuking Inspiring!!! I miss San Francisco.
+1 on all of this - I think I stayed at Green Tortoise for five days or more, it's a good place.

Their Yosemite adventure trips are worth it but it's worth making sure that you will have an experienced guide. The guy we got was not all there and got us lost in the middle of the fucking wilderness.

Luckily we had a british army dude with us who got us out of our pickle (moustache twirl). We ended up having an ugly argument with the proprietor - who we were now dependent on for food/shelter - and he didn't give two shits about our experience.

I would still recommend going and would probably go again (get in some downhill mountainbiking if you can) but be aware of the above and also be prepared to share a bus with college kids who are there for the partying.

If you do make it to Vegas do yourself a favour and go see the grand canyon. I didn't and still regret it.

NYC: If you are at all into jazz/interesting cocktails/unique experiences check out Little Branch. Also go to Koreatown, get a booth and do some karaoke.

This reminds me of a German chick I was talking to online many years ago who said she was visiting the states if I wanted to hang out. She was going to be in NY, just a 3,000 mile jaunt down the street from me. :x

I never said the Grand Canyon was in Vegas?

It's easily accessible from there - a four hour drive according to Google, probably closer to three IRL. Or do a helicopter tour, I don't give a shit.

Given it's a region many people will never visit/will only visit once in their lifetime and the Grand Canyon is a natural wonder of the fucking world I absolutely would push people to make a trip out of it if they can.

And beats, I'm not gonna take that bait :D

Well if he’s going to Vegas he might as well stay a night in the New York, New York hotel and casino and then skip his trip to the real deal. And in related great advice he could also go California Adventure across the street from Disneyland in SoCal and virtually experience all the great things this state has to offer in a lot less time. :)

lighten up rozling... i was just busting your balls. i know you know that i know that you know the Grand Canyon isn't in Vegas. regardless, he asked about taking a day trip to Vegas... from San Francisco.

agreed on seeing a natural wonder of the fucking world... personally, i would skip the illuminated shit hole called Las Vegas all together and go see the giant hole in the earth instead.

but that's just me...

But I think we can all agree that nothing beats the natural wonder and class that is Hollywood Blvd. Where else can you see Michael Jackson and Jimi Hendrix serenading Batman in front of the world’s largest t-shirt boutique?

^ yep. and you can spend all your money on anything from, Gucci glasses to hats with propellers on them to hamburgers to heroin... or you can just give it away slowly as loose change by sharing a little at a time with everyone that asks.

they can help you quit smoking on that street too. just open the pack and reach for a cigarette. light one and don't put the pack away... walk slowly... 8 puffs and 19 questions later you will have no smokes.

Don't mind me - when I say I regret not going I very much meant it; YOLO and all that.

As far as the day-tripping from SF goes I saw he asked that but had presumed by the time I weighed in someone would have tried to dissuade him as I believe that is what the locals refer to as 'cray-cray'.

I agree. I don’t gamble so there’s close to zero attraction to Vegas for me, and I’ve been there twice. You certainly don’t feel special and it isn’t cheap if you’re not flushing your money down the casino toilet. “Hey, I’m down $500 but I got a free cocktail and overcooked steak. Kickass!”

The second time I was there was for a bachelor party. We tried throwing that out there like it was currency and the overwhelming response was “Who isn’t?”
