basically, NI has failed to tame the vicious beast that is Reaktor on the OSX platform. Reaktor 5 is a little bit more effecient, but if you got no G5, you get no performance really.polyslax wrote:Adam, can you elaborate on this a bit. I'm sorely tempted to buy Session and the 5 upgrade but can't decide whether this behemoth is for me. I've demo'd Session and like some of it but wasn't blown away.AdamJay wrote:NI Reaktor (rarely, might be on its way out if R5 doesn't "whoah" me)
Just like to hear some other opinions on Reaktor.
if you're on Windows, disregard.

For live Live use:
Ibanez 1306 6-string bass
Gonkulator
Akai synth bass pedal
MoogerFooger filter
Line 6 DL4
Nord Lead 1
Mackie 1202 mixer
IBM Thinkpad 1.8G Pentium 4
Echo Indigo I/
Evolution UC 33
The bass gets routed through an aux send into the laptop, and looped in Live via Ellotronix XL, Mobius or PSP 42, then further processed via SuperTrigga, Pluggo, etc. Live also triggers breakbeat loops, often from studio recordings of our drummer, and textures/loops from various softsynths, lately a lot of stuff from Mode and Kontakt.
At the home studio, all of the above, +
Rhodes
Minimoog
Hammond M-3
MOTM/Blacet modular
Roland RE 301
Mac G5
Logic
And all the other detritus of a lifetime of being a music nerd...

since Live 4, i'm moving more and more to the laptop only approach. i have tons of one shot drum samples and like impulse a lot. also, with Live and stuff like soundhack, i'm also into destroying sound files from old live sets a lot lately.
if i need a new synth, i usually take one of the creamware beauties. also when i get to the stage of finishing tracks (rarely these days), i route busses/individual tracks over ADAT from the laptop to the creamware environment for mixing/standard insert fx.
apart from that, i use a mackie 1402vlz pro and event ps8 monitor. and this cheap evolution keyboard/controller (waiting for the winter and some free time to buy some behringer/doepfer cheapos, taking them apart, and custom build my own housing for combined power).
due to lots of work (video/light for a theatre production) on the computer, i spend most of my free time just strumming my guitar in the couch (a beautiful PRS).
hardly ever gets used anymore:
nordrack2, korg ms10, emu systems emaxII, alesis midiverb4, digitech rds8000 time machine (the fx are more for live use).
tl audio fatman2, akg c3000, sennheiser md421
just bought me an old, broken London City guitar amp for peanuts, which i hope to get fixed this summer.
see the sig for computer details.

Software-
Dominated by-
Live 4
Reason 2.5 rewired.
I tend to get all my synths and redrums from reason at the momment and sequence in live4.
Other software-
Soundforge 7
Albino 2
Limelite
Iztopz trash
NI guitar rig
Rarely used-
absynth3
moog
bassstation
Hardware-
Roland MC307
Evolution 149 keyboard
PCR30 Keyboard
I really need to figure out the basstation, moog and absynth3 (though A3 seems to be a huge CPU hog in live).
