Good digital audio editor?

I've been using Steinberg Wavelab Elements 7 for quite a while and I love it. It's got great batch processing as well and it's nice to look at IMO.

Does it need an elicesenser?

Since I use Cubase I put it on my dongle for ease of use but I think you can possibly use the software elicenser instead if you don't have the dongle. I'd double check that though before you buy it.

That's what I'm trying to find out (though I'd be interested in 8 obviously) but I have not found the definitive answer. I'll bet they do though. I don't have one so I can't try it if so.

Has anyone tried Wavepad from NCH software? I have their Video capture and edit programs, which seem to work pretty well. I have a useable version of Wavepad, but am thinking of upgrading to the Master's version, since it has VST as well.

Sometimes Sonar X3 is just too overwhelming for simple audio capture....

I just looked at some screenshots and remembered why I never followed through with the freebie - it's frosty and cold. Almost as ugly as Ableton and Sylenth. It actually causes me pain to face these ugly programs. I don't get it. Why make a great audio product, then ruin it by making it look ugly? We are sensitive artists, so we are are going to be sensitive to looks. I know some people will like the look of these programs, but many will hate the look, so at least make some good skins. (Ableton has one okay dark skin, but you can't read some of the black writing against the dark background - easy fix, but no, Ableton won't fix it.)

Alright.......wavelab elements.

TGTBT so far. Everything I want in an editor seems to be there. I click "edit" with the waveform I want to edit, wavelab opens up, I edit what I want, I hit save and it saves it back to live (shrug) In fact, you can go back and fourth if you are like me and have unprocessed clips running through sims to hear what is sounds like before making other edits, the only thing is that it's clearly destructive. You'd have to make a copy, rename it launch it into wavelab and do it that was....or just never hit save

Still, it's glorious so far. All I ever wanted was to have a pencil tool/delete/fade/add silence/mute audio files and all those freebies? Forget it! The either don't work, work poorly, don't work well with live or all of the above.

Since the trial is very generous I'll play with it for a while but really, I'll already sold. Thanks to those the mentioned it (but I hate steiny )

I'm on 9.11. On your advice, I read the release notes of later versions, and it seems they might have fixed it in 9.1.2b1: "Improved readability of labels in clips, tracks, chains and macro controls. The color of the text is now automatically inverted, depending on the background color."

The main problem was the drum names in the midi editor were stuck on black against a dark background. I'll get 9.15 when it comes out to see if it's fixed.

Okay, I tried 9.14. It has improved the readability of some areas very well, but the main problem remains - Drum names in the midi editor are unreadable with a dark background. (Also, when things are turned off in Preferences, the Off writing is unreadable.)

I don't understand why this basic problem is taking so long to fix. It's the kind of thing you'd expect in a version 1 beta, not a v9.

While I'm about it, I wish the colour pallette had more options and some brighter colours for colouring clips. The colours are okay for pale grey backgrounds, but not for dark backgrounds. Orange, for example, looks bad.

I emailed Ableton, and they said to adjust preferences. So they don't understand or don't want to. I even sent them a screenshot.
